North Carolina on September 11 , 1862.

He worked as apprentice, pharmacist,


cowboy, clerk, book keeper since fifteen years
old. He published ten collections of stories and
over 600 short stories during his lifetime, all of
which are about the life of ordinary people in
New York City. "The Last Leaf”, first
published in 1905.
