Description of the mobile phone

A mobile phone, cellular phone, cell phone, cellphone, handphone, or hand

phone, sometimes shortened to mobile, cell or phone, is an electronic device
that people use for oral communication wherever they are on the Earth. Unlike the
landline, which could only be used to talk from a certain place, the mobile phone can make
and receive calls over a radio frequency link while the user is moving within a telephone
service area. While the earliest generation of phones, with buttons, rugger, harder and less
modern could only make and receive calls, today’s mobile phones have progressed, they
do a lot more, have more functions, such as sending messages, making an account on
Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram and so on, accommodating web browsers, games, foto
cameras and navigational systems.
Who invented the mobile phone and how?

The mobile phone was invented by Martin Cooper, in 1972. Martin Cooper was
working for Motorola company as an engineer. He was an American pioneer in the wireless
communication industry, especially in radio spectrum management, with eleven patents in
the field. He thought the cell phone should be portable, not chained. He wanted people to
have freedom to talk on the phone, wherever they are. So, with the help of Motorola, he
succesfully created a new phone, a portable one. He even made a call in public with this
type of cellular phone, in 1973. After his brilliant succes, Martin Cooper got his nickname,
„the father of the (handheld) cellphone”.
Why has the mobile phone improved the
quality of life?
My opinion
In the past, before Martin Cooper invented the cell phone, people were communicating
very hard. They were writing letters and telegrams, they were even running lots of kilometres
just to say something to a friend or to a relative, they were talking on the street phones in
phone booths, but those times have gone. Nowadays, people use to communicate with a
mobile phone wherever they are. The mobile phone helps us every day to communicate much
easier, to hear the voices of our loved ones, to transmit information within seconds to lots of
people.
The mobile phones help people to:
- transmit and receive information;

- write an email;

- research information on the Internet;

- use different social networks (whatsapp, facebook, instagram, etc.);

- do online shopping;
- use different applications for e-learning, such as Classroom, Meet, Zoom, Gmail, Docs,
Sheets, etc.;

- manage bank accounts with applications such as George, Mint, Plum, etc.;

- take photos and save them in a foto gallery;

- use different office applications, such as Power Point, Word, etc. (They are quite
interesting though.);

- watch the news and to find out the weather in a certain day;
- watch movies and listen to music (Netflix, Youtube, Spotify,
etc.);

- play video games;

- learn and make projects ( Classroom, Power Point, Word,

Excel, etc.);

- orient in space (Maps).

Interviews

Interview 1
Name: Badea Clara
Relation: My mother
Invention: The computer (PC)
When I asked my mother which invention has improved her quality of life, she said it is the
computer. She told me that it helped her working easier and more efficient, making
documents, with the possibility to correct the eventually mistakes, without replacing pages
because of some misspelled words. Also, she replaced the hard manual work of creating
drawings with online resources, much funnier and atractive in their students’ opinion. Owe to
the computer, nowadays she doesn’t have to carry bags full of documents for her job. She uses
the electronically stocked information. She thinks that the laptop is useful both at home and at
work, because it is easy to find information.
Interview 2
Name: Tomescu Vasile
Relation: My grandpa
Invention: The TV
When I asked my grandpa which invention has improved his life, he said it is the TV. He
told me that, in the past, the acces to information was difficult. He was reading newspapers,
magazines and he was listening to the radio. With the appearance of TV, things have
changed radically, because lots of superb things have become possible, such as watching
news, movies, sport matches and documentaries. The image which accompanied the sound,
even being black and white made the understanding of the information much easier. With
TV’s improvement and diversification of shows, this genius invention has become an usual
thing that is used every day. My grandpa said that the life wouldn’t make any sense without
the TV.
