• Sort out yourself
Think about what words should you use and how the others
may react
• Choose a right context
Right place, right time, right method matter
• Prepare for the receiver
Let them know there is something you have to tell them and
it's not positive
• Give them facts
Break it down for them. Be open and genuine

• Sympathetic is the key
Try to put yourself in others' shoes, but don't give someone
fall hope.
• Offer support
You can offer help or don't. Suggestions for solutions are
always appreciated.

you do and say in these situations
• You want to tell your bestfriend for 10 years that you will study abroad for the next 5 years
at least. You won't return soon and perhaps live oversea forever.
• Your mom tries to cook a few dishes and she want to open a small restaurant. But her
cooking skills is not good at all and she may not succeed.
• Your brother is applying for this top-tier university and he has high chance getting in
because he is a very smart student. However, your family is in tough situation and may not
able to afford the tuition fee.
• You are offered a new job with high salary but it is a challenging one. While you are loving
your current job because the colleagues are really nice. You don't know how to tell the boss
because she took you in and trained you from day 1.
• You caught your friend's boyfriend hanging out with another girl in public. You are not sure
if he's cheating but they seem close. You are conflicted whether you should tell your friend
or not.
• You are in the Math team competing in national level for your School. But you are
exhausted and wanted to quit. How to tell your teachers and teammates when you are
supposed to compete in the next 2 weeks.
