LIFE PROCESS

All living things perform different

processes, which together help in
maintenance and are necessary to
keep it alive and function well. These
life processes include nutrition,
excretion, reproduction, movement,
respiration, growth, and sensitivity.

• Epiphytes – an organism that grows upon,
or attaches to a living plant
• Most commonly refers to higher plants, but
can also include bacteria, fungi, lichens,
mosses, and ferns
• “Air plants” – do not root in the soil
• Obtain moisture from the air or from
dampness (rain and cloud moisture) on
the surface of their hosts

Types of
Respiration
Energy from ATP(Adenosine triphosphate)
ATP energy currency of the cell
• ATP------->ADP+P(when we need energy)
• ADP+P----ATP(when we store energy)

Blood Cell(deoxygenation)
O2---
CO2---
• Oxygen+Hb-Oxy Hb(easily dissociate)----formed in the alveoli

• Carbondioxide +Hb-carbaminoHb(easily dissociate)--cells

• Carbonmonoxide +HbcarboxyHb(stable)

Lymph is a clear fluid that comes from blood plasma, which exits blood vessels at capillary beds. This
fluid becomes the interstitial fluid that surrounds cells. Lymph contains water, proteins, salts,
lipids, white blood cells, and other substances that must be returned to the blood

Excretion in human beings:
Although the kidneys are the main organs of excretion, the skin, lungs and
liver also help in excretion.

Skin:
Our skin has sweat glands, through which we excrete small amounts of
water, urea and salts.
Liver:
The liver excretes bile, which contains bile pigments. These are produced by
the breakdown of old RBCs in the liver. As hemoglobin breaks down, its
iron is retained, while the pigment (haem) is excreted with the bile. The
liver also excretes cholesterol.
Lungs:
The lungs help in getting rid of carbon dioxide, formed as a result of cellular
respiration, through exhalation.
