Peace Education is the process of acquiring the

values, the knowledge and developing the attitude,


skills and behaviors to live in harmony with oneself,
with others and with the natural environment.
Peace Education as a series of “teaching encounters” that draw from people:

- Their desire for peace

- Non-violent alternatives for managing conflict

- Skills for critical analysis of structural arrangements that produce and


legitimize injustice and inequality
Negative Peace is defined as the absence of large-scale physical violence – the
absence of condition of war

(example : cold war between the Soviet Union and the USA, Ceasefire)

Positive Peace Involves the development of a society in which, except for the
absence of direct violence, there is no structural violence or social injustice.
Peace Education is about empowering people with the skills attitude, and
knowledge:

- To build, maintain and restore relationships at all levels of human interactions.

- To develop positive approaches towards dealing with conflicts (from the personal to the
international).

- To create safe environment, both physically and emotionally, that nurture each individual.

- To create a safe world based on justice and human rights.

- To build a sustainable environment and protect it from exploitation and war.


A culture of peace through service

- Service to others ultimately means working toward a peaceful world in which all can
experience prosperity and happiness.

- Services means being creative and working together to solve problems.

- Service to others also means helping each person toward improving their situation
depending on their needs.
Peaceful Education is based on a philosophy that teaches

- Fairness
- Cooperation and
- Reverence for the human family and all life on our planet
Peaceful Education includes:
- Communication
- Listening
- understanding different perspectives
- Cooperation
