What is π
› AN IRRATIONAL NUMBER THAT HAS A NUMERICAL VALUE OF 3.14159265358979…
AND IS REPRESENTED BY THE SYMBOL π

› IT EXPRESSES THE RATIO OF THE CIRCUMFERENCE TO THE DIAMETER OF A CIRCLE

AND APPEARS IN MANY MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSIONS

› HOW DID IT GET THE NAME “PI”? IT WAS FIRST CALLED “PI” IN 1706 BY THE WELSH

› MATHEMATICIAN WILLIAM JONES, BECAUSE PI IS THE FIRST LETTER IN THE GREEK

WORD PERIMITROS, WHICH MEANS “PERIMETER.” WHY DOES “PI” DESERVE ITS
OWN DAY? IT’S A special number

Intresting facts about π
› Π has been used by humans for thousands of years
› It is an eternal number
› PI’S DIGITS FOLLOWING THE DECIMAL POINT ARE AT RANDOM
› AMERICAN LEGISLATORS ONCE ATTEMPTED TO ROUND UP PI TO 3
› SOMEONE HAS MEMORISED PI TO 70,000 DECIMAL PLACES

Importance of π in mathematics
› Pi is an important concept that appears in all aspects of mathematics
› It is a crucial concept that helps to understand the universal truths and some
mathematical concepts
› Mostly pi values are used in concepts like trigonometry, geometry and advanced
concepts like probability, statistics, and complex numbers
› If you ask any scientist about pi, they will tell that the value of pi equal to the
decimal value 3.14159
› But when you ask a mathematician, they will tell that pi is a value which is equal to
circle circumference divided by the circle diameter
› It is a well recognized mathematical constant used all over the world
Pranav P
› In ancient times it is used as a secret code for some confidential works.
› Since a circle consisting of 360 degrees and pi is used to denote that 360 degrees of a circle and it is referred to as “ circular constant “.

Mathematics without π
› If pi did not exist, mathematical calculations and scientific formulas that use pi
would be greatly affected
› Many natural phenomena, such as circles and spheres, would not be able to be
accurately described or measured without pi
› Additionally, many engineering and architectural designs that use circles, such
as bridges and buildings, would also be impacted.

Relation of π and trigmometry
›π plays a crucial role in trigonometry

› It appears in various trigonometric formulas and identities, such as the unit

circle and the periodicity of trigonometric functions
› π is also used to convert angles between degrees and radians, the
preferred unit of measurement in trigonometry.
›Understanding the power of π allows us to solve intricate trigonometric
problems and unlock new mathematical insights

wave you are using) uses pi since the fundamental period of a sine wave is 2*pi.
› Navigation, such as global positioning (GPS)
› Calculating the number of death in a population
› Solving Mathematics problems in Geometry like finding the area of circle etc.
› Using π : it can measure things like ocean wave, light waves, sound waves, river

pennies, the grid of nails and mountains by using a series of circles.

› Abishek B
› Formulae from other branches of science also include π in some of their
important formulae, including sciences such as statistics, fractals,
thermodynamics, mechanics, cosmology, number theory, and electromagnetism.
› It's also used to measure how fast and how powerful a computer is; because
they can use it to check its accuracy and if there is any problems in its software
or hardware.
