About the Goal
◦ To achieve gender equality and
empower all women and girls.
Gender equality is not only a
fundamental human right, but a
necessary foundation for a
peaceful, prosperous and
sustainable world. There has been
progress over the last decades, but
the world is not on track to achieve
gender equality by 2030.
Is Gender Equality practiced in
Meghalaya?
◦ No, gender equality is barely practiced in
Meghalaya. Due to the following reasons:
1. Physical violence
2. Emotional violence
3. Child marriages
4. Gender discrimination
5. Education
◦ Women are elevated to the position of
goddesses in India. However, the difficulties
they encounter merely show the inverse of this
idea.
Solutions
◦ Share household chores and childcare equally.
◦ Reject Racist attitude
◦ Help women gain power
◦ Pay ( and demand) the same salary for equal work
◦ Support women’s leadership
◦ Fund women organizations
◦ By increasing women's representation in leadership
and decision-making
◦ Keeping girls in school
◦ Speak out
◦ Engage men in the fight to end violence against
women and girls.
