Empowerment refers to the increasing the
spiritual , political , social or economic
strength of individuals or communities.
Empowerment is a multidimensional

their own lives.

STATUS IN MODERN
INDIA
• Progress in Education: Increasing numbers of girls and women are pursuing
education, narrowing the gender gap in literacy and academic achievement.
• Legal Reforms: India has implemented laws and policies to protect women's rights,
such as the Domestic Violence Act and the #MeToo movement.
• Economic Participation: More women are entering the workforce, contributing to the
country's economic growth, but wage gaps and underrepresentation in leadership roles
persist.
• Political Representation: India has seen a rise in the participation of women in
politics, with several women holding prominent positions in government.
• Challenges Remain: Despite progress, issues like gender-based violence, female
feticide, and child marriage still persist in many parts of the country.
• Cultural and Social Norms: Traditional beliefs and gender roles continue to
influence women's lives, impacting their autonomy and choices.
• Empowerment Initiatives: Various government and non-governmental programs are
actively working to empower women through skill development, entrepreneurship, and
health initiatives.

GOVERNMENT STEPS

• Launched on January 22, 2015, in Panipat, Haryana,
Bachpan Bachao Andolan is a nationwide child rights
movement that aims to spread awareness about the
declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and to urge federal and
state governments to take a more proactive approach
towards addressing issues concerning the girl child. The
campaign kicked off to raise awareness regarding the
alarming fall in Sex ratio across India but has moved on
to address other concerns such as gender-biased sex-
selective eliminations, going so far as to promote
education, prevent deaths of young girls, and ensure
protection from sexual harassment.

launched the Mahila
Shakti Kendra in 2017,
an initiative to empower
MAHILA rural women with
opportunities for skill
SHAKTI development,
employment, digital
KENDRA literacy, health, and
nutrition. The project
will use community
engagement through
student volunteers in the
115 most backward
districts to reach women
effectively.
• STEP Programme aimed to provide opportunities
for women to develop skills that will enable them
socio-economically. In short, This skills training
initiative will assist women in providing the right
skills for employability and entrepreneurship. The
initiative can be taken seriously by any woman
STEP above the age of 16 years on the condition that
they are registered properly on the website portal.
Women can participate in any sector they like and
there is no limit on what they specialize in:
agriculture, horticulture, food processing,
handlooms, tailoring, stitching, embroidery, zari,
handicrafts, computer services, and Soft Skills.

• It is found that 46.7% of respondents are from age group
15 to 20 years , 26.7% are from 20-30 years and 26.7%
from 40 to 50 years
• It is found that 53.3% respondents agree that women are
given equal status in India , 26.7% strongly agree with
this ,3% of respondents disagree ,1% strongly disagree and
2% respondents said neutral.
FINDIN • It is found that 30% of respondents strongly agree that govt
policies are not helping to resolve the situation, 26.7%

GS agree, 23.3% are neutral , 16.7% disagree and 1% strongly


disagree with this.
• It is found that 36.7% respondents agree, 26.7% strongly
agree ,13.3% are neutral and 23.3%
disagree that reservation and quotas for women are not
really helping the cause.
• It is found that 40% respondents strongly agree, 40%
agree, 13.3% neutral and 6.7% respondents disagree
that The government and other agencies (schools, etc.) are
adequately spreading awareness about women
empowerment and its need in the society.
• It is found that 50% of respondents agree ,26.7% of respondents strongly
agree ,16.7% of respondents are neutral and 6.7% of respondents disagree
that In a culturally (paternally)strong countrylike India ,women
empowerment will become a reality
• It is found that 56.7% of respondents strongly agree, 30% of respondents
agree,10% of respondents are neutral ,3.3% of respondents disagree

agree,6.7% of respondents are neutral and 6.7% of respondents disagree
that Education is the major factor that will develop women empowerment
• It is found that 50% of respondents strongly agree, 36.7% of respondents
agree,6.7% of respondents are neutral and 6.7% of respondents disagree
that Women empowerment will lead to westernization of India
• It is found that 66.7% of respondents strongly agree, 26.7% of
respondents agree,6.7% of respondents are neutral that Women
empowerment is a positive step towards the development of any society.
• women empowerment is not just a matter of gender
equality; it is a fundamental human right and a catalyst for
positive societal change. It involves fostering self-
confidence, equal opportunities, financial independence,
and active participation in decision-making. While progress
CONCLUSIO has been made, challenges and disparities persist, but with
continued efforts and collective support, we can create a
N more inclusive and equitable world where the potential of
every woman is fully realized. Women's empowerment
benefits not only women but society as a whole, leading to
greater social and economic prosperity. Let us all commit to
working towards a future where women's empowerment is
a reality for all.
