what is intellectual property?

 Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works;
designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.

 1
Rights that are protected by intellectual
property
 Copyright. Federal copyright law protects original creative works such as paintings, writing, architecture, movies, software, photos, dance, and music. A
work must meet certain minimum requirements to qualify for copyright protection. The length of protection also varies depending on when the work was
created or first published.

Trademark. Brand names such as Nike and Apple, as well as logos, slogans, and other devices that identify and distinguish products and services, are protected
under federal and state trademark laws. Unlike copyrighted works, trademarks receive different degrees of protection depending on numerous variables,
including the consumer awareness of the trademark, the type of service and product it identifies, and the geographic area in which the trademark is used.

 5
How can a manufacturer benefit from the
copyright act?
 A very wide range of creative works - such as books, music, paintings, photographs, sculptures,
architecture, films, computer programs, video games and original databases - are protected by copyright.
 You can really boost the value of your SME business if you give some consideration to the benefits of
copyright.

 6
What is plagiarism?

 According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual
property and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression
fall under copyright protection if they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).

 7
How is the knowledge of plagiarism important
to you when doing research?
 Why is Research Ethics important? Plagiarism includes someone else’s idea or works with your name in
your research without permission or proper reference. Ethics are the morals and principles that govern
your actions and behavior. These are the principles that form the thin layer between the buckets of rights
and wrongs, professional and unprofessional, and the acceptable and unacceptable human behavior. Values
can be different, but moreover, Ethics are the same for all.

Importance of trademarks

 Trademarks are distinctive marks that assist consumers in identifying and choosing the products they prefer or
services that have a positive reputation. Your trademark makes finding you, and distinguishing you from your
competitors, easier for your clients. Your trademark helps establish your brand and makes your business, services,
and products stand out. When customers see it, they know who you are, know your reputation, and hopefully will not
look for alternatives to your business.
