Introduction

As we started by defining the problem of our project at L3-a, we are now going to
generate a wide range of potential artifacts at L3-b, together with a set of constraints
(musts) and wishes (wants) that can be utilized to guide our team in choosing the perfect
artifact. Three tasks, listed below, must be explained for our L3-B assignment:
1. What kind of artifacts might there be?
2.What are the restrictions?
3-What are your desires?

We will be fully prepared for the artifact selection by the time this task is complete, and
we will have a clearer understanding of the following stage.
03
Artifacts

In this section, we'll use brainstorming and random simulation to try to come up with as many
ideas as we can. The process of brainstorming is used to generate ideas and information for a
certain topic. Table 1 lists the top 30 ideas the team came up with after applying the
brainstorming technique to create a list out of 60 artifacts. Each member should give one idea
from the five categories that we have listed. The categories are:

Personal items Office supplies Car equipment Building items Toys

Task 1

In our list we felt the need of a new category to cover up the large numbers of the
artifacts. Table gives the process we have used to generate the new category.

After we generated the new

Word categories:
1. Personal items
Drill Device → Electric → Electrical Devices 2. Office supplies
3. Car equipment
4. Building items
5. Toys
6. Electrical Device

06
After gathering the ideas we started the multi-voting method. We have 30 artifacts
divided by 3 equals 10. So each member has 10 votes for the artifacts and the
maximum vote for one idea by a member is 2 votes only. Table shows the symbols
for each member.

Task 2
Now we use brain drizzle method:

We take some phases to remove some MUSTS:

1-it’s not from our job  Less than<70 SAR
2-that’s too expensive  Legal
3-that’s not practical  Ethical
After we use these statement, we remove some ideas:  Can be control by the person

Use multi voting method to decrease constraints to three or four:

Member 1 2 3 4 5 6
Symbol A B C D E F

Findable (A),(B),(E) Not complicated and comfortable You can’t carry it anywhere
(A),(C) (B),(D)

(F) (B) (A),(C),(E)

Not dangerous (E) Can be divided (C),(D),(F) -No need for high quality
equipment to separate (C)

14
After we generate a lot of constraints by the brain storming process, we start
to remove the similar constraints from different members by the boggle
method. But, we still have a huge number of constraints, so we use multi-
voting to reduce them to a reasonable number. Our final constraints are
shown in the table below :

Constraints (musts)

1 Findable

2 Accepted by (“SASO”)

3 Can be divided

4 Approved by the instructor

Random
stimulation
Random stimulation is a method that we use if we are stuck
and can’t get more ideas. It can give you different ideas than
what have been generated. It uses a random words from any
resources you have for example, a dictionary, book,
newspaper, etc. To generate other words that stimulate the
flow of ideas.

18
Random

Category before using random stimulation:

1-Related to the color

2-Related to the shape
3-Related to the department
4-Related to the material

20
Use multi voting method to decrease constraints to be at least five:

Electrical artifact Bright color Don’t have sharp angels

(F) (A ), ( C ), (F) (E ) , (A) (E ) , (B),( F)

Back to Agenda 21
After we use multi voting we decide to take three or more votes in
common and we get 6 ideas like in the table below

Ideas (wants)

1 mechanical artifact

2 (combine)Plastic with metal

3 Easy to separate

4 Don’t have sharp angels

5 Have a bright color

6 Less than 10 parts

22
Conclusion:

after we generate the ideas, musts, and wants, we follow many steps to arrive at the final
lists of them. This lists, will help us in the future when we want to decide on the final
artifact idea. In the next assignment, we will evaluate the ideas based on the constraints
we have and check how many of them will be chosen. Then we will put a score for each
wants to measure the final score of each idea that passes the constraints we have.
Depending on the score, we will end up with one final idea.
