mental health has been studied often. Exercise can
be used for promotion and maintenance of mental
health and the management of mental health
problems.

fall under the umbrella sport
called athletics. Field events are
divided into two types:
Field Events

JUMPING THROWING
In jumping, the most important qualities
a jumper should posses:
1. Great speed to help propel the
body to a good height and stay
suspended in the air for the
longest possible time

2. The ability to fully extend the knees and legs to

achieve a good take off and landing
High Jump consist of a
short run up, take off from
one foot, and a jump over a
horizontal bar resting onto
two upright poles, before
landing on cushioned area
on the other side.
The long jump consist
of a short run up
followed by a jump
forward into an area of
dug up earth. Its aim is
to keep the body up in
the air and traveling
forward as far as
possible.
The pole vault at the Summer Olympics is grouped
among the four track and field jumping events held at
the multi-sport event. The men's pole vault has been
present on the Olympic athletics programme since the
first Summer Olympics in 1896.
Triple jump, event in track and field
(athletics) in which an athlete makes a
horizontal jump for distance
incorporating three distinct, continuous
movements—a hop, in which the athlete
takes off and lands on the same foot; a
step, landing on the other foot; and a
jump, landing in any manner, usually
THROWING EVENTS
The shot put is an event in
which the participant stands
inside a circle and attempts to
"put" a weighted ball as far as
they possibly can. The "put" is
different than a "throw" due to
the motion of the arm.
THROWING EVENTS
discus throw, sport in athletics
(track and field) in which a disk-
shaped object, known as a
discus, is thrown for distance. In
modern competition the discus
must be thrown from a circle 2.5
metres (8.2 feet) in diameter and
fall within a 40° sector marked
on the ground from the centre of
the circle.
THROWING EVENTS
The javelin throw is a track and field event
where the javelin, a spear about 2.5 m (8 ft 2
in) in length, is thrown as far as possible. The
javelin thrower gains momentum by running
within a predetermined area. Javelin throwing
is an event of both the men's decathlon and the
women's heptathlon.
