Volleyball

An engrossing and high-energy sport, volleyball has been an


ever-present discipline at the Olympic Games since its debut
at Tokyo 1964.

While the Soviet Union emerged as a force to be reckoned


with in volleyball in the early Olympic years, Brazil, Cuba
and China have grown in stature in recent times.
INTRODUCTION
To begin, toss a coin to see which
team gets to serve the ball first. Teams
have 30-second timeouts per match,
and players must wear tennis shoes for
protection. Casts and jewelry are not
allowed, and loose volleyballs should
not be chased into other courts.

You cannot block a serve

THE SERVE

SPIKING &
BLOCKING
The receiving team is not allowed to block or spike
a serve ball.

A spiker must contact the ball on his/her own side


of the net, but may in the course of the follow
through reach over (but not touch) the net.

Spikers must contact the ball on their side of the


net, but can reach over it during a follow-through.
Backline players inside the attack zone cannot play
the ball directly into the opposite court. The
affected team has three more contacts.
FORFEIT
AME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME! Teams are strongly
encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early for their games.
Any game whose outcome is declared a forfeit will
result in a loss being credited to the forfeiting team.
