The country. Iceland is an island of 103,000
km2, with an average altitude of about 500 m
above sea level. Its highest peak,
Hvannadalshnjúkur, rises to 2,110 m, and more
than 11% of the country is covered in glaciers,
including Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in
Europe.

Iceland has total freedom of worship. Icelandic culture is anchored
in its Nordic and Scandinavian roots, of which its sagas and eddas
(forms of the literary epic) are recognized worldwide, such as the
Saga of the Greenlanders or the Saga of Erik the Red.

The typical Icelandic food is: cod cooked with
butter, baked lamb, pylsa, smoked trout with
dung, crayfish, cucumber (also greenhouse
strawberries), native blueberries, shrimp
salad ... And soups : lamb (Kjotsupa), fish,
leeks and broccoli with cream.

Iceland is a young island, having been formed
approximately 20 million years ago after a
series of underwater volcanic eruptions on the
Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The oldest rock samples
date from ca. 16 million years.
