(Project Issue or Problem)

 To minimize the effect of workplace hazards.

 Here are some common yet important workplace hazards in the
manufacturing industry that need to be addressed for efficient risk
management and workers’ occupational health and safety.
(Project Issue or Problem)

1) Housekeeping
 Poor housekeeping can contribute to incidents like:
 tripping over loose objects on floors, stairs and platforms
 being hit by falling objects
 slipping on greasy, wet or dirty surfaces
 striking against projecting, poorly stacked items or misplaced material
 cutting, puncturing, or tearing the skin of hands or other parts of the body
on projecting nails, wire or steel strapping
(Project Issue or Problem)

2) Inadequate guarding of plant/equipment

 Inadequate guarding of plants or equipment can lead to serious life-
threatening injuries. Multiple injuries can be caused by moving
machinery: Machinery moving parts or projectiles can strike and injure
people. Additionally, body parts may be trapped between pulley drives,
belts, and rollers.
3) Obstructions on Keep clear area
 Obstructions on Keep Clear areas like aisles, walkways, fire exits,
emergency exits, and storage areas can lead to severe hazards during an
emergency.
(Project Issue or Problem)

4) Spillage
 It can include chemical or water spillage that can lead to falls, slips or
trips. Spillage can lead to improperly maintained machinery.
5) Electrical
 Electrical shocks are a workplace health and safety hazard that can have a
minor or severe effect on the workforce.
The chosen ISO standard:

 ISO 45001 is an international standard for occupational health and safety

management systems. Its main purpose is to provide a framework for
organizations to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities, as
well as to improve overall workplace safety.
ISO 45001 Preparation
 gathering data and data analysis; past incidents, near misses, and workplace
hazards. The data will help identify areas that need improvement and set
benchmarks for measuring progress.
ISO 45001 Implementation
 a. Top management commitment is crucial in ensuring the success of the
implementation process. They need to allocate resources and establish clear
objectives for improving occupational health and safety.
 b. Training plays a vital role in implementing ISO 45001. Employees at all levels
should receive training on their roles and responsibilities regarding health and
safety. This includes training on hazard identification, risk assessment, emergency
response procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
 c. Processes within the organization should be reviewed and updated to align
with ISO 45001 requirements. This may involve
 d. Documentation is an essential part of ISO 45001 implementation.
Organizations need to develop policies, procedures, work instructions, forms, and
records related to occupational health and safety management. These documents
should be easily accessible by employees and regularly reviewed for
effectiveness.
ISO 45001 Implementation

In our case study we will cover the following clauses:

 6.1.2 Hazard identification and assessment of risks and opportunities
 6.1.2.1 Hazard identification
 6.1.2.2 Assessment of OH&S risks and other risks to the OH&S
management system

ISO 45001 Measurement

After implementing ISO 45001, data analysis becomes crucial in measuring

the effectiveness of the system. Incident rates should be monitored regularly
to identify trends or areas that require further improvement. Data analysis can
also help identify root causes of incidents or hazards that were not previously
identified.
Conclusion

 ISO 45001 provides a structured approach for organizations to minimize

the effects of workplace hazards on employees' occupational health and
safety. By collecting data before implementation, organizations can
identify areas for improvement. Implementing the standard involves
training, reviewing processes, making necessary changes, and
documenting the system. Data analysis after implementation helps
measure the effectiveness of the system and identify further
improvements. Regular maintenance and review of the system are
essential to ensure continuous improvement in occupational health and
safety.
