Social Etiquette
Experiment 1
Pretending to be someone's ex-girlfriend
or ex-boyfriend
How And Why?
Two of the (same gender) team members act
as usual just talking together.

One other (different gender) team member calls the actor

(The caller’s name should be saved as EX - boyfriend / girlfriend.
The caller should threat and swear to the receiver(actor)

The receiver(actor) asks our school student to act

as if he is his / her boyfriend or girlfriend.

We purposed to see if our school students help other students when

they are in trouble(threat) with their EX - boyfriend / girlfriend.

Social Etiquette Experiment 1

Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
General Reflections
• Since this experiment was unique topic, we had lots
of concerns and had a hard time experimenting with
shame.
• However, everytime students helped us, we gained
confidence.
• On the contrary, when rejected, we lost confidence
and felt ashamed

Social Etiquette Experiment 1

Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
Realization
• Surprisingly, most of the Chung-Ang University
students helped and acted as we expected. Several
members of the team succeeded in predicting the re-
sults.
• Even though we were the ones who received help
through the experiment, our hearts became warmer
and we decided to become people who help others.

picking up something that someone has
dropped
How And Why?
Dropping a banana pencil case on the street

Pretending not to know that something has

dropped

Observing people's behavior

We wanted to know how many people would pick up

something that someone dropped.
Social Etiquette Experiment 2

pected, 90% of the people picked it up.

Social Etiquette Experiment 2

Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
General Reflections
• This experiment was a simple experiment.
• But we were worried that people might not recog-
nize that something had dropped. This is because
many people walk on the street using their cell
phones these days.

• We were surprised because most of the students ac-

tively tried to pick up what we had dropped.

Social Etiquette Experiment 2

Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
Realization
Most of the students picked up what we dropped.
We was touched because people stopped what they
were doing (ex. playing cell phones, talking to
friends) and ran to hand over what they picked up.

A little kindness warmed our hearts. We decided to

try to be kind to others.

Social Etiquette
Experiment 3
paying for someone's coffee
How And Why?
Look for a person who is paying their coffee at
kiosk

Ask them if we send them money, can they pay for

us

Wait to see if they pay for us

We did this experiment to see if our school students will help us

when we asked them to pay for us when we didn’t have wallet.
Social Etiquette Experiment 3
Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
Expectations and Results
• We had 9 people who was helping us and 1 person
couldn’t help us because the credit card wasn’t their
own one.
Result

Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
General Reflections
We were very shy to ask stranger to pay for our drink
during the experiment.
Also the people we asked looked flustered because
normally not many people ask them to buy a drink for
them.

Social Etiquette Experiment 3

Chapter 5. Target Markets: Segmentation and Evaluation
Realization
• It could be reluctant to help someone who are ask-
ing to pay for their drink. But, we were surprised
that a lot of people helped us.
• Those results can tell that there are still tons of nice
people in the world.
• Also we were curious about what will people say if
we didn’t tell them we are going to send them
money after the purchase.
