History Of Charles Babbage
• Charles Babbage (1791-1871) was born in Walworth, Surrey, on
December 26, 1791. He was one of four children born to the
banker Benjamin Babbage and Elizabeth Teape.
Education Background
• He attended Trinity, Cambridge, in 1810 to study mathematics,
graduated without honors from Peterhouse in 1814 and
received an MA in 1817.
Contribution
• He designed the first automatic computing engines. He invented
computers but failed to build them. The first complete Babbage
Engine was completed in London in 2002, 153 years after it was
designed.
• He also invented a type of speedometer and the locomotive
cowcatcher.
Other facts
• His father worked in London for Praed's & Co as a banking partner.
• He is considered by some to be "father of the computer".
