Introduction
Education is a fundamental right that lays the foundation for a child's future success
and well-being. However, access to quality education can be hindered by various
factors, including poor nutrition. Malnutrition and hunger are widespread issues that
disproportionately affect children, particularly in low-income communities.
Recognizing this challenge, many countries have implemented school feeding
programs as a strategy to address malnutrition and improve educational outcomes.
Introduction
Threats to human health from malnutrition are significant in every way. Undernutrition and
obesity are two forms of malnutrition that the world is currently dealing with, particularly in
poorer nations. It is a serious cause of death for both adults and children, according to UNICEF. In
the Philippines, 30% of children under the age of five experience stunted growth and
development as a result of inadequate nutrition. In the East Asian and Pacific areas, this places the
nation at fifth place. Malnutrition is predicted to get worse due to the current pandemic (Kurtz et
al., 2021; World Health Organization, 2018).
Introduction
Malnutrition among students in public schools is addressed by the Department
of Education's (DepEd) School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) initiative. It
tries to lessen hunger and improve a student's academic performance, school
performance, learning outcomes, and nutritional status. Due to the current
health crisis, DepEd amended the SBFP, giving priority to the welfare, safety,
and health of the students and staff involved while ensuring the achievement of
program goals. The Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) and
the DepEd's mandatory health requirements were strictly adhered to during the
implementation of the SBFP (DepEd Order No. 23, 2020;
2016 (Rivera).
Introduction
The implementation of the SBFP in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic has
run into a number of issues and has come under fire in the East Maitum
District. Additionally, it is difficult to provide Nutritious Food Packs (NFPs) to
the recipients because interactions are restricted because of health risks.
Schools can select whether the NFPs will be picked up or delivered
immediately. However, delivery comes at an additional expense. Locally,
parents of beneficiaries are urged to pick up their NFPs, but some do not for a
variety of reasons. Due to this, the program's viability and effectiveness may
be compromised (DepEd Order No. 23, 2020).
Introduction
Thus, the researcher conducted this study to to identify the
Impact of School Feeding Program among Elementary
Learners with Nutritional Problem of San Policarpo
District as a basis for Program Enhancement and
Sustainability. It also aimed to assess the nutritional status
and academic performance of learners. This way, the
researcher could develop an intervention program tailored
to and relevant to the needs of learners.
Objectives:
1. Identify the demographic profile of School Feeding
Program beneficiary learners in San Policarpo District in
terms of:
1.1 age
1.2 sex
1.3 grade level
1.4 Parent’s Source of Income
Objectives:
2. Identify the number of School Feeding Program
beneficiary learners of:
2.1 Number of School Feeding Program of Beneficiaries
2.2 Completion Rate
2.3 Cohort Survival Rate
Objectives:
3. Determine the academic performance level of School
Feeding Program beneficiary learners in San Policarpo
District in terms of:
3.1 Literacy level
3.2 Numeracy level
Objectives:
4. Assess the impact of School Feeding Program to the
Educational Upliftment of San Policarpo District Learners
Objectives:
5. To make an intervention plan focusing on the School
Feeding Program Enhancement and sustainability to
beneficiaries.

Methodology:
RESEARCH DESIGN
The researcher use the mixed method. Mixed-Methods Approach:
Utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods to gain a
comprehensive understanding of the impact of the School Feeding
Program and the factors influencing its effectiveness and
sustainability. Mixed methods research is a research design that
includes philosophical assumptions as well as methods of inquiry.
Methodology:
LOCALE OF THE STUDY
The study was conducted in selected elementary schools of San Poli District in
the Division of Eastern Samar located at San Poli, Eastern Samar. As of the study
period, said district has 13 primary schools and 13 school heads. Headed by the
school district supervisor, supported by 2 principals, 3 Head Teachers, and 8
teachers-in-charge to supervise and monitor. 5 teachers with the administrative
support of 143 employees. A total of 2,516 enrolment was recorded during the
study period. Selected School Feeding Beneficiaries are involved in the study.
Methodology:
RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY
This study involved selected Elementary Learners with
nutritional problems enrolled during the school year 2023-
2024 in the elementary schools of San Policarpo District.
The study has 100 target population for the entire district.
Selected pupils from this target population were the
respondents of the study.
Methodology:
SAMPLING PLAN
From the target population of 100 Elementary pupils with nutritional
problem of San Policarpo District, a sample was obtained through
Purposive Sampling: It identifies key stakeholders: Students, teachers,
parents/guardians, community members, program administrators, school
staff, local authorities. Select participants who have experience and
insights related to the School Feeding Program and aims for diversity
within the sample to capture various perspectives.
Methodology:
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
Developing appropriate research instruments is crucial for gathering
accurate and reliable data for your study on the impact of the School
Feeding Program among elementary learners with nutritional problems in
the San Poli District.
The research will use structured surveys such as: Survey Questionnaire,
Attendance Records and Academic Performance Data, Nutritional
Assessment Tools, and Informed Consent Forms.
Methodology:
Data Analysis
The researchers used descriptive research design that
includes both numerical e.g. central tendency measures such
as mean, mode, median or measures of variability, and
graphical tools. This gives a summary of the data set and
extract important information such as central tendencies and
variability.
