INSPIRE Awards - MANAK

 The scheme was initially launched by


the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 13th
December 2008 and was implemented
in 2009-10.
 Department of Science and
Technology (DST), Government of
India and National Innovation
Foundation-India (NIF) are executing
the INSPIRE Awards - MANAK scheme.
 Scheme covers students in the age
group of 10-15 years (class 6-10).

Intelligent Goggles for Blind

• Problem: Blind man sticks/smart walking


sticks help visually impaired people to
navigate are available, which could detect
obstacles at the ground but nothing is
available, which could detect obstacles at
waist level or above.
• Idea: Smart goggles, which could detect
obstacles present ahead of the visually
challenged people and give an alert in the
form of vibration.
Saving Water through Usage Monitor

• Problem: Wastage of
water every day.

• Idea: To have a water


usage monitoring
system using which
one can keep track of
the usage of water.
Automatic Food Making Machine

• Problem: Repeating the


same steps to prepare food
daily.
• Idea: Steps could be
recorded and a machine can
be made that could do
these steps, food could be
cooked automatically and
with the same taste.
Modified Walker with Adjustable Leg

• Problem: Difficulty to walk up


or down stairs using
conventional four leg walkers.
• Idea: Mechanically alter the
height of the legs of the walker
so that they can be adjusted as
per the height of the stairs.

Should be based on current knowledge of science and should not be hypothetical;
should be implementable.
Degree of novelty
Is there anything new in the idea? If yes, how much is it different and what advantage
will it bring?
Solving existing problem
Does the project solve/address any common problem for which no solution is available
or if available is it sub-optimal.

Social Applicability/Usefulness
How is the idea related to social, gender, environmental context - does it address issues
of under privileged/ physically challenged, reduces drudgery for women, mechanics,
farmers, artisans, etc.; is it environment friendly?
Short-listing of Ideas/Innovations
Cost effectiveness
Does the project reduces cost of an operation times without any accuracy loss, health/
financial or environment concern.

Scope of diffusion
Social or Commercial - whether the project can be put to practical use? scale may be
large or small, does not matter.

User friendliness
Is the project user friendly or not? what will the use of a great idea, if it cannot be used
by people intended for/ or implemented

Relevance in Current Govt. Schemes


Does the project align to any of the current Govt. schemes like Swatch Bharat, Start-up
India, Digital India, etc.
