his successor was Shah
Jahan .
Jahangir’s Early Life
Jahangir was born in the year 1569 to Akbar at Fatehpur
sikri,India., His mother was Mariam-uz-Zamani, one of several
wives of Akbar.

When 2 of Jahangir’s elder brother died . When Akbar got to know


that he is going to have a child . An order was passed that a royal
palace is going to be established.

Jahangir was given the name Nur-ud-Din Muhammad Selim at


birth. Which was named after a sufi. Later when he took the
throne he got the title Jahangir meaning The world Conqueror

The Glorious Reign of Jahangir.
In 1599 Jahangir took the opportunity of his father's absence during a military campaign in the
Deccan (the peninsula of southern India) to stage a revolt, but without success. Akbar confirmed
Jahangir as his successor before his death in 1605.
He succeeded the throne on Thursday, 3 November 1605, eight days after his father's death.
Salim ascended the throne with the imperial grand title of Nur-ud-din Muhammad Jahangir, and
thus began his 22-year reign at the age of 36.
Jhangir was a trained person by his father, a well versed in art of kingship. He was a master at
Arabic,Persian, and Turkish language. He loved arts and culture.
The arts of Mughal empire flourished in his reign. In his reign many outsiders used to come and
gave them ideas. His reign had religious tolerance He was a fairminded person. His reign lasted
from 1605 to 1627.
Under his rule the the Mughal empire remained prosperous and powerful.
Jahangir’s Magnificent Idea !
As Jahangir was a fair and a just person, he never wanted his people to be left unjustified. So for
this problem he set up a chain outside his castle with.
60 bells and it was 80 feet long. This was known as ‘chain of justice’.
This was used when a unfairly treated person came and shook the chain and then the officials
of the king were alarmed and knew that there was a victim who was treated unfairly. And the
people can come to him any time.

Jahangir had 20 wives, and the one who was very close to Jahangir was ‘Nur Jahan’.
she was the last one. Nur Jahan was born as Mehr-un-Nisa to a Persian family In 1594, when Nur Jahan was
seventeen years old, she married her first husband Ali Quli Istajlu (also known as Sher Afgun Khan.)
 After her husband Sher Afgan was killed in 1607, Nur Jahan met Emperor Jahangir at the palace's during the spring
festival which celebrated the coming of the new year, Jahangir proposed immediately and they were married on 25
May of the same year Nur Jahan was thirty-four years old
 At the time of her second marriage and she would be Jahangir's twentieth and last legal wife. Mehr-un-Nisa was later
named Nur Jahan by Jahangir. She was a strong woman, And also used to hunt tigers.She used the be the power
behind the throne and had her name written on the empire’s coin.

during the reign of jahangir.
