throughout the text

some parts the narrator remembers word for word but other parts are hazier

• P4 – use of structure – short sentences – creates panic and tension (adds to the
theme of fear). Single line paragraph also used.
• Conclusion
Paragraph Starter Ideas:

P1 – In the text Night, the writer uses a range of adjectives to describe the narrators changing
feelings throughout her illness and the effect it has on her.

P2 – Furthermore, the writer of the text Night uses both direct and indirect speech to show the
feelings of confusion the narrator has about her memories of her illness.

P3 – The writer in the text Night, also uses a range of negative language to show the narrators
feelings about her family and her illness.

P4 – Finally, the writer in the text night uses sentence structure to convey the feelings of fear
the narrator had as an effect of her illness.
Model Paragraph on “Night”:
Finally, the writer in the text night uses sentence structure to convey
the feelings of fear the narrator had as an effect of her illness. For
example, “I was not myself” and “How strange” is used to explain the
mental health effects and insomnia caused by the narrators illness. The
use of short sentences create a feeling of tension for the reader and
they become concerned about the narrators mental wellbeing. The
monotonous tone of the repeated short sentences presents the effects
of the illness on the narrator as being quite severe to her mental
health, almost causing a depression. The tension created through the
use of short sentences also presents the overall theme of fear in this
text and how illness causes fear.
