 INTRODUCTION
• The word Malahar was adopted by Yogaratnakar from the word Malaham or Maraham
basically originated from Unani system of medicine . This is called as Malahar because it
removes mala from Vrana, Vidradhi, Twak Vikar etc. condition . Malahara has a property like
snehana(oleation), cleansing, ropana(healing), lekhana(scraping) and varnya
(beautifying), depending on the drug use in preparation.
• Topical application are the main route of drug administration on dermatological conditions.
• Topical semi solid dosage forms are normally presented in the forms of creams, gels, ointment,
pastes etc.
• They contain one or more active ingredients dissolved or uniformly dispersed in a suitable base
and any suitable excipients such as emulsifiers, anti microbial agents, antioxidants, or
stabilizing agents.

• Talakodaya Malahar is one such preparation mentioned in Rasatarangini , have indication like Vicharchika,
Dadru, Pama, Kustha, Vishphota .
• Talakodaya Malahar will be transformed into cream in this study in an attempt to create a new form.
• Thus, we will prepare the Talakodaya Malahar cream with the help of less number of ingredients use that is
Active, Shea Butter and EDTA.
• In the formulation Shea Butter is used , because of its properties like- Sun screening function, As an
emollient, Anti agening , Anti inflammatory properties. Shea Butter is composed primarily of Stearic
Acid, Oleic Acids and minor component of Vitamin A.
• EDTA is well known Metal Chelating Agent , extensively used for the treatment of pateints who have
poisoned with heavy metal ion such as Mercury and Lead. EDTA act as a Antimicrobial Agent .
 NEED OF STUDY
• The necessity to make our dosage forms more appealing and convenient for pateints without sacrificing the
medication’s effectiveness.
• Ayurvedic dosage forms need to be modified because the majority of the traditional dosages are difficult to carry ,
edible, have limited shelf lives ,difficult to distribute, and not attractive.
• A wide range of changes should be possible; we need to make Ayurvedic medication more potent and the
therapeutically useful.
• Therefore , an effort will be made to switch Talkodaya Malahar medicine to Talakodaya Cream.

• To prepare Talakodaya Malahar and modified Cream.

• To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Talakodaya Malahar and modified
Cream.

• Talakodaya malahar is mentioned in Rasataragini of Sadanand Sharma, Ekadasha Tarang ,verse 78-82.

 MATERIAL AND METHODS
A) SOURCE OF DATA-
1. Literary source- All the classical literature and various research article related with this topic.
2. Pharmaceutical source - Genuine raw materials will be collected from authentic source.
Preparation of Talakodaya Malahar and Talakodaya Cream will be done in pharmacy section of
PG Department of Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana , Patanjali Ayurvigyan Evum
Anusandhan Sansthna, Haridwar

3. Analytical source- Basic analytical study as per “Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India” will
be carried out in an approved laboratory.
 METHODS
A) PREPARATION OF TALAKODAYA MALAHAR:
1. Siktha taila will be prepared according to Rasatarangini.
2. Shodhan of Parad ,Gandhaka, Hartala, Manashila, Gairika,will be carried out according to
Rasatarangini.
3. Grahya sindoor will be obtained from authentic source.
4. To prepare the Haritiki Churna and Khadir Churna.
Take 30 part Siktha taila, Hartala 2 part, kajjali of Parad and Gandhak, Haritiki
churna , Khadira churna, Gairika, Sindoor 1-1 part , Manashila half part. Then All ingredients Will
be properly mixed in khalva yantra and store in glass jar.
 B)PREPARATION OF TALAKODAYA CREAM
Ingredients- 1. Talakodaya Malahar – 5Part
2. Shea Butter - 1part
3. EDTA -0.5gm
Method- Talakodaya Malahar and Shea Butter will be taken in the ratio
5:I respectively. Talakodaya malahar in a vessel will be heated over a large
vessel containing water under mild fire . Shea Butter will be added to it and
shea butter will be allowed to melt completely. Next, the EDTA will be
added to this. The obtained product wll be stored in glass jar.
 C) ANALYTICAL STUDY

Physio- Chemical Analysis of Talakodaya Malahar and its modified Cream:

Organoleptic Characters -Appearance, Colour ,Odour etc.
pH
Rancidity
Loss on dryness
Spreadability etc.
 D) IN VITRO STUDY

• This study is for evaluation of antimicrobial activity of Talakodaya

Malahar and Talakodaya Cream .
• Susceptibility tests will be done on these bacteria like Streptococcus
and Staphylococcus etc. through any one of the following methods-
a. Agar disc diffusion
b. Other diffusion methods.
 DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

• The data obtained by various procedures will be statistically

analysed, discussed and a logical conclusion will be drawn .
