BIRTHING HOME
MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Birthing homes are often located within or near communities, making maternal and neonatal healthcare
services more accessible to pregnant women who may face challenges in reaching distant hospitals. In
remote or rural areas where transportation infrastructure is lacking, birthing homes provide a vital
alternative for safe deliveries.
They require fewer resources and infrastructure while still providing high-quality maternal and neonatal
healthcare services. This makes them a sustainable solution for improving health outcomes in resource-
constrained settings.
Shyrel A. Tudon-Nor, RM owns and manages Alaga Birthing Home, which is located at Brgy. Egam,
Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
◦ The Alaga Birthing Home faces specific challenges that need addressing for better patient care. Firstly, there's a need for a digital system
to make patient registration easier and faster. Currently, this process is manual and can lead to errors or delays. Secondly, managing
patient records, especially between outpatient and admitted patients, is tricky without a proper system. This lack of organization can
make it hard for doctors and nurses to access the right information at the right time. Lastly, there's no way to generate detailed reports on
things like patient details, medical histories, and treatment outcomes. This means missed opportunities for improving care based on data.
By creating a Birthing Home Record Management System, these issues can be resolved, leading to smoother operations and better patient
outcomes.
Objectives of the Study
The general objective of the study is to develop a Birthing Home Record
Management System.
Specifically, it aims to:
1. Develop a digital health record system that will facilitate electronic patient
registration;
2. Develop a patient record management system capable of managing both
outpatient and admission records; and
3. Develop reporting functionalities within the system to generate reports on
patient demographics, medical histories and treatment outcomes.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This section enumerates the scope covered by the study and its
limitation.
Scope
Electronic patient registration with demographic information
and contact details includes the scope of the proposed system
as well as management of patient profiles including medical
history, prenatal care records, and previous deliveries. Admin
can keep track of the needed records that the midwife need to
monitor the patient’s health status. The system will also
display the needed fill-up forms that the patient needs to fill
in so that the authorized personnel from the clinic can print
out the records that the patient has already filled up.
Limitation

The system will be designed for the Alaga Birthing Home, it

doesn’t cover the payments and accounting and Point of
Sales and it only serves as a tool for input and storage use
only. It is limited only by not having functions like the data
cannot be imported because the data is stationary to the
system which is exclusive only for patients, nurse, and
midwives of the maternity clinic.
Significance of the Study

This system is designed for doctors, nurses

and midwives and it serves as a tool to help them
record the patient’s record, monitoring of clinic
medicines supplies in the inventory that was built in
together with the system.
Owner.
The owner’s competitive advantage over other
clinics is to have an organized, simplified but
effective recording and monitoring system. The
information stored within this system is an official
record that may be used for official purposes such
as required by, for example, DOH or PhilHealth.
Midwife.
The system will allow the midwife-in-charge to
check for specific patient information applicable
to effective healthcare such as attending
physician’s special instructions, if any.
Nurse.
The system will allow the nurse-in-charge
to check for specific patient information
applicable to effective healthcare such as
attending physician’s special instructions,
if any.
Patient.
This system aims to provide a substantial
information to patients regarding for the updates
of their maternal health status. They can also fill
up the needed information that they need to fill
up in the automated logbook that comes together
with the system in a way that the midwife can
monitor their maternal health from before and
after birth.
Researchers.
◦ This study helped us to be more investigative on the needs
of an organization and where we can contribute to the
society with this span of knowledge that we learned and we
realized that nowadays, technology is a must for business
innovation.

processed and operate to users and other readers. The goal of this
project was to enhance the manual method of displaying the
Birthing Home's management system. The input of the system
includes the Patient’s Information, Midwife Information and
Midwife Username and Password processed by the built system
and produced outputs such as the generate and print reports.

METHODOLOGY
The researchers will use the Agile Methodology which is suitable to the
project time frame as shown in the figure below. This method will be used
because the flow is very smooth and detailed from the start of the project,
processing until the end. This method also described the whole processing
of the project from Requirement gathering and analysis, Design,
