CONNECTIVITY

Differences between WIFI and BLUETOOTH

WIFI BLUETOOTH
Range Long Short
Bandwidth High Low
Power High Low
Security High Low
Can connect multiple Yes Limited
devices simultaneously (Usually has to
be paired)
Factors influencing the choice of Digital communication in a
network
When devices transfer data, they may be affected by many factors
that stop bits from reaching their destination. There are 4 such
factors:
1. Transfer method-Wireless method have to work on a limited
number of frequencies. Copper cable can carry more frequencies
than wireless methods.
2. Interferences-Other electromagnetic systems interfere with wired
and wireless systems.Like generators.
3.Blockages-Walls and furniture reduce the strength of wireless
signals.
4.Distance-The strength of wired and wireless medium is reduced
when the distance is increased

.
Differences between wired and wireless communication
Wired Wireless
Cost  Cables are cheap if  No need to buy
purchased for a small cables.
number of devices  May need a wireless
access point.
Safety  Risk of tripping over  None
the cable
Speed  Faster  Slower
Stability  Less affected  Affected by
interferences interference
Portability  Not portable  Portable with signal
range
Security  More secure  Less secure
Maintenance  High  None
Mess  Untidy  Tidy
 The speed at which at which devices can transfer data
depends on the Bandwidth of the connection. Bandwidth is
the number of bits that can be carried by a connection in
one second. The speed of data transfer also depends on
Latency. Latency is the amount of time it takes to send data
between devices
The Impact On The User Experience
 Higher Bandwidths makes uploads and downloads faster
 Lower latency results in smoother flow of gaming, Streaming
etc
Broadband provides fast access to the internet through a
connection to an ISP.Mobile broadband provides high speed
wireless connectivity using 3G & 4G technology to connect to
mobile phone network which acts as the users ISP.
