Let’s Learn About Volume!
Mensuration - Volume for Grade 3
What is Volume?
• Volume tells us how much space something
takes up.
• It’s like finding out how much water or sand
can fit inside something!
• Example:
• A box, a bucket, a water bottle – all have
volume.
Everyday Examples
• Here are some things that have volume:
• - A juice box
• - A fish tank
• - A suitcase
• They all hold something inside them!
Units We Use
• We measure volume using cubic units.
• Just like we use:
• - cm for length
• - cm² for area
• - cm³ (cubic centimeters) for volume!
• 1 cube with sides of 1 cm = 1 cm³
Let’s Count Cubes!
• Each small cube is 1 cubic unit.
• Let’s count how many cubes fit inside this box!
• Example:
• A box made of 2 × 2 × 2 cubes = 8 cubes
• Bonus: Volume = length × width × height
Fun Activity Time!
• Can you guess the volume?
• Picture this: A block of 3 × 2 × 1 cubes
• How many cubes are there?
• Hint: Multiply: 3 × 2 × 1 = ?
• Let’s practice more in class! 🎉
