Chris Postma FOR RELEASE: October 21, 2012 Phone: 456-3343 Fax: 456-4490 #12-103829 ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO MURDER On Saturday evening, at approximately 11:16 pm, a police officer observed a subject wanted on outstanding warrants for his arrest, exiting a residence in the 1700 block of College Ave S.E. The officer identified himself and issued verbal directions to the suspect. The suspect disregarded the officers command and fled on foot over a 6 foot fence and began running east. The officer pursued on foot enlisting the help of other officers nearby. As the officer pursued the suspect he began to run between 1728 and 1732 Paris Ave SE. While doing so the suspect turned, extending his arm towards the officer, firing a shot in his direction. The suspect then continued running to the south. A perimeter was established in the area. The suspect was apprehended in the 500 block of Griggs St SE, where he had secreted himself under a vehicle. The weapon believed to be used in this assault was recovered under the vehicle also. The officer was not injured during this incident. The suspect, Jacoby L. Manning-Bey, B/M, 04/20/1988, was lodged at the KCCF on charges Assault with Intent to Murder, Felon in possession of a firearm, Possession of Marijuana, and being a Parole Absconder. Detectives will meet with Prosecutor to review the charges on Monday. The Grand Rapids Police Department Major Case Team is investigating.
