Double Page Spread Analysis - 1

By Rage Ali

The other mini images are of Solange Knowles. I think the purpose of having them there in the double page spread is to show multiple sides to her personality. I think this is effective because I think its easy for readers to make the assumption to why its there. I think I could use this for inspiration or a similar idea because I could say that the other pictures show sides that my artist doesnt necessarily show the media.

In the picture we see the artist (Solange Knowles) in a ruffled short dress. From what we can see , the clothes that she is wearing links back to the genre of music she makes its a homage to the 80s. I think this successful because the red contrasts both the text and the other mini images and your attention is focused on the main image both because of the size and because of the colour red red is a colour that commands your attention and can also be used as a connotation to danger. We could look at this double page spread in the context that Solange Knowles has landed onto the music scene and be should be aware of her and her talent . Which links to the short paragraph about forgetting her sister and we should be focused on her. I think I could use this as inspiration because the layout is effective and although it uses more than 2 colours in its layout it doesnt look tacky and unprofessional.

The short intro paragraphs purpose is to introduce the article. The intro in this spread talks about Solange being a star in her own right. I think this is effective because we as readers want to know more about her , why should we pay attention to her rather than her famous sister. The text in this article is in columns. One reason why it may be in columns is because its a lot of text and having it in columns makes it look less to read.

The purpose of the page number is for: Organisation when referring from the contents page. Without it , the magazine would lack structure.

The pull quote main purpose is supposed to one of the most memorable quotes from the interviewee. It also gives an idea to what the interview topic is about. In this particular pull out quote she talks about having to audition for everyone or having to do something that is outrageous to be branded as different. I think the pull out quote also shows the pivotal point of the interview. I think it is extremely effective here because it caputres her emotions and her both as an artist and person.
