Picture a classroom consisting of middle schoolers and their history or global issues teacher. What would a lesson look like? consist of? Reading a chapter? Watching a video? CLICK Then the addition of a new city and culture, belgrade, Serbia for example. How are students learning information about Belgrade? Do they stay interested, focussed, and intrigued? Or are they more concentrated on what might be on test instead of taking in the information given and forming their own opinions and ideas? CLICK This idea inspired my question

CLICK To make students aware of current global issues and their importance and how those issues are effecting them. CLICK -To pique curiosity about the world, language, and cultures other then their own. CLICK Make them a better more competent student. Give students the confidence in their knowledge about the world. CLICK -I would like for this to be about people and a culture and what those people have gone through to be where the are today. I want a student to understand that on an emotional level. Not from a level of stress where they will be tested about specific dates.

CLICK Use appropriate design that student's will relate to and feel comfortable using. CLICK Use design to communicate Belgrade's history and how it has had an affect on the people. Communicate to students that learning about another foreign culture is just as important as learning about our own countrys issues. CLICK Making the information relatable through use of personas CLICK Gain knowledge to create a thoughtful and appropriate design artifact.

These are students ages 12-14 years old that are beginning to form their own opinions about the world and are making decisions for themselves, but they are still impressionable. Global Issues classes cover things such as energy crisis, war, terrorism, globalization, ethnic conflict, debt etc. These things will be covered but by doing so through story telling. They will be seeing these things happen through the eyes of a local from the country/city.

CLICK Informational posters to be placed to create curiosity by the students before they take part in the activities. CLICK Then the booklet this book would pertain to a specific person or family. In this case, some one from Belgrade, Serbia. >will lead to discussions >contain maps >info graphics > contain a timeline represented in some fashion to show the connections between the persona and the historical and current information. I want to create an artifact other then a huge intimidating book... this could be another way of teaching. A form of role play. What Information would middle schoolers be entertained by and what would hold their attention? CLICK A document that would be used by the teacher to help guide the discussion
