schoolreading,notjustreadinginEnglishlanguagearts(NationalGovernorsAssociationCenterforBestPractices&CouncilofChiefStateSchoolOfficers,2010).Forexample,studentswillneedtospendmoretimereadinginformationaltexts—butintheirscienceandhistoryclasses.Teachersinthesecontentareaswillnowneedtoplayalargerroleinteachingtheliteracyofthosesubjects(Shanahan&Shanahan,2008).ButEnglishteachersdon'tneedtostopteachingliterature.ThemajorityoftextsstudentswillstudyinEnglishclasseswillstillbenovels,shortstories,poems,andplays.
