Children raised by grandparents

During the past decade, several studies that investigated the social, emotional and physical functioning of grandparents raising their grandchildren, have been published . The increase in the number of children being placed under the care of their grandparents has been attributed to various factors, including parental substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, divorce, violence and parents lack of time because of their jobs.We may say that these children are likely to experience more stress and emotional problems than other children due to separation and loss of parents and the limited abilities of grandparents. In my opinion children should be raised by their parents. Grandparents should not be the primary care giver unless something happens that puts them in that situation.Grandparents offer too much protection to their grandchildren and this may affect the development of the children's independence and self-confidence and may contribute to their dependence on others. The traditional thoughts and some out-of-date concepts held by the grandparents may also affect the spirit of innovation and creativity of their grandchildren. The relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is often a very special one but for a growing number of grandparents, grandparenting really means parenting a second family. Grandparents no longer have the luxury of sending the children home after a weekend visit, because they are assuming the responsibility of raising the grandchildren. Parents should give more responsability for educating their children despite their hard work. No matter how busy they are at work, the parents should devote more time and love to their children to get well informed of their physical and psychological growth. Only by doing so, their children can grow healthy in the rain of love.

Damage of environment

We have come to the end of a millenium of accelerating destruction of the world around us. While human creativity and technology have blossomed , we have been destroying the ecology of our planet. The sad fact is that every day the diversity of life on earth gets poorer because of our overuse of resources and our disregard for the riches of nature. Since the industrial revollution, man has burned quantities of fossil fuels, first coal and then fuel, and the result was that the composition of atmosphere has started to change.Burning these fuels produces gases which act in the atmosphere like glass in a greenhouse and trap the heat of the sun - this is known as the greenhouse effect. The overall global temperature has begun to rise. Global warming is expected to lead to extreme changes in climate. Industrial processes produce poisonous substances. If these toxic wastes are buried in underground storage sites, there is a danger that they may leak into lakes and rivers. Emissions from industrial plants can cause damage to the ozone layer around the planet. They also can fall back to Earth , as acid rain, and destroy plants and trees. I think the technological basis for improved standards of living causes environmental damage. Damage is caused to the natural world because of the corparations attempting to fulfill demand . We have alternative resources but we don't use them. We could switch to alternatives but powerful influences are blocking and ignoring alternatives at there own expense in the future, because it would be a significant sacrifice for them to change their practices. When we tamper with the environment , it is not just nature which suffers. Our own way of life is under threat.
