The dyes separate becausesome dyes stick more to the paperwhile other dyes are more solublein the salt solution. These differ-ences will lead to the dyes endingup at different heights on the paper. When the salt solution is about ½inch (1 cm) from the top edge of the paper, remove the paper fromthe solution. Lay the paper on aclean, flat surface to dry.Compare the spots from thedifferent candies, noting similaritiesand differences.
