INTRODUCTION: The Wing-I in Youth Football
RIGHT FormationThe double-tight Wing-I is a great platform for a youth football offense. Thesystem I recommend in this very short playbook includes power, misdirectionand passing, all from seven plays.Because there are two counter plays included in the offense, it is possible torun the system from RIGHT formation only (see diagram above). However, Istrongly recommend that you teach the system from both RIGHT and LEFTformation by “flip-flopping” the players to the other side of the formation sothat they stay in the same relationship relative to each other in bothformations. That way you will designate a Strong End, Tackle and Guard, and aQuick End, Tackle and Guard, who always stay together on either side of theCenter. The Wingback always sets to the strong side of the formation.I have diagrammed all seven plays against the Gap-Air-Mirror (GAM) defense forone simple reason -- if you can block the GAM, you can block just aboutanything. You’ll find you can apply the blocking rules on each playsheetagainst any defense you face, however.
