National Training Programme on KOHA An Open Source Integrated Library System CESS at a glance The CESS was established as an autonomous body registered under the societies act in the year 1980, by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh. Appreciating its role in the promotion of research and training, the ICSSR (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) recognized it as a national institute in the year 1986 and included CESS in its network of institutions. The CESS has also undertakes research studies sponsored by several national and international organizations like Ministries in Government of India, Planning commission, RBI, Tata trust, ADB, Word Bank, UNICEF, Ford Foundation, European Union, etc. The Centres research revolves around the economic and social issues of AP in particular and the Indian economy in general. Research at the CESS falls into broad categories like agriculture, irrigation and food security, state finance, industry and services, education, health, poverty and rural development, political and institutional issues, environment and natural resources, resettlement and rehabilitation, child development and gender issues.

About CESS Library The Library of Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) has attained the distinction of being one of the richest libraries of the state, particularly in the field of Social Sciences and its related fields. The library offer access to print and electronic resources, including more than 30,000 books, 150 journals, newspapers, CDROMs, e-journals, e-databases and particularly Government Reports to its users in a pleasant reading environment. The Library is fully automated with KOHA-a Library Management Open Source Software and also Institutional Repository with Dspace software. The Library is also having the rich collection of World Bank publications as the only Depository Library of the World Bank in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which helps to enhance the knowledge of researchers in world scenario. About KOHA Koha - Library Software is the worldss first free and open source library system. It is fully featured, scalable library management system. The constant development is sponsored by libraries, volunteers, and support companies worldwide. KOHA was created in 1999 by Katipo Communications for the Horowhenua Library Trust in New Zealand, and the first installation went live in January 2000. Koha is a web-based Integrated Library system.

It includes modules for Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serials control, Patron management, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and more. It is fast emerging and most preferred open source software for library applications all over the world. KOHA has strong supports from worldwide called KOHA COMMUNITY to help 24/7 for their users and the development is also going 365 days a year. Objectives i. ii. iii. iv. Live practical classes with live demo through a live CD. Give an in-depth understanding of KOHA software for the use of library automation. Conduct hands on experience for the installation and customization on Ubuntu Operating system. Provide extensive hands on training to the participants so as to enable them to work independently after the training programme.

The fee includes a Live CD of Software, Training programme kit, refreshments and working lunches only. Accommodation The accommodation is not provided by the organizers. But, the organizers will help the participants to find suitable accommodation. Target Participants Library and Information Science Professionals includes Faculty, Library Personnel, Research Scholars and students. The number of participants is limited to 25 and the preference will be given to first-cum-first basis that have basic knowledge of handling computers, due to limited computers.
