Sri Parasara Bhattar

Sri Parasara Bhattar was the eldest of the two sons of Sri Koorathazhvan (also
known as Kuresa) and Smt Andal. The exact date
of his birth is not recorded and is enerall!
areed to be at the end of "#th centur!. $e is said
to be the next s%iritual leader after Sri &amanu'a.
There is also another view that Thiru kurukai%
%iran %illan was the s%iritual successor of
&amanu'a.
Sri Parasara Bhattar was well versed in (edanta
and )iv!a Prabhandhas at a ver! !oun ae. $e
is said to have defeated a famous Advaita teacher
called *adhavadasa of Tirunara!ana%uram
(%resent da! *elkote) in a debaet+ which went on
for a weak. After the debate was over+
*adhavadasa acce%ted defeat and became Sri
Parasara Bhattar,s disci%le under the name &ananatha+ also known as
-an'i!ar.
Sri Parasara Bhattar com%osed the followin works
Astasloki. This is a brief and clear ex%lanation of the three rahas!as astaksara
(tirumantaram)+ dva!am and caramaslokam+ in eiht slokas.

this stotra while he was forced to o awa! from Sriranam due to the
dis%leasure he incurred of the then 5hola kin.

Sri Rangara"astava. This is the lonest and most im%ortant works of Sri
Parasara Bhattar. The entire work is of #6# verses and is in two %arts. The first
%art is com%osed of "#. verses and is known as Purvasataka. 4n this section sri
Parasara Bhattar details the lories of Sri &ananatha. The second %art of "/7
verses is known as 8ttarasataka. 4n this %art Sri Parasara Bhattar refutes the
%hiloso%hies of advaita+ buddhist and 'aina traditions.
Tirman"ana Kavi. These verses are recited in Sriranam tem%le on occasions
like 9kadasi+ Amavas!a+ A!ana+ teluu : tamil new !ears da! and
Brahmotsavams. ;nl! #3 of the 7/ verses are available in %rint.
Kaisikamahatmya# $ommentary on Kaisikaprana. This is one of Sri
Parasara Bhattar,s com%ositions in tamil. This works is com%osed of <# verses
and ex%lains the im%ortance of sinin the lor! of 0ord (araha. Kaisika%urana
is a %art of (araha%urana.
%aivannanarngn"i. This is an elaborate commentar! in tamil on one stanza
= *aivannanarunun'i = formin %art of Tirumanai azhvar,s
Tiruneduntandakam.
