Prayers before the Reading of the Psalms

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, O Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon us. Amen.

(if a priest, "Blessed be our God, always now and ever, and unto Ages of Ages",
instead)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and
ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who art in all

places and fillest all things, Treasury of good things and Giver
of life: Come and take up Thine abode in us, and cleanse us of
every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three Times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and
ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, blot out our sins. O
Master, pardon our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities
for Thy name's sake.

Lord have mercy. (Three Times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and
ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in the Heavens, hallowed be Thy name, Thy
Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Give us
this day our daily bread, and forgive us our transgressions, as we
forgive those who transgress against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Tone 6Have mercy upon us, o Lord, have mercy upon us. We sinners bring this appeal to
You, O Master, for we have no defense: Have mercy upon us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

O Lord, the celebration of Thy holy prophet has made of Thy church and earthly
paradise: Angels are rejoicing with men. Through the intercession of Thy holy prophet
and King David, O Christ our God, guide our lives in peace that we may sing to Thee:
Alleluia.
Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen

Numberless are my sins, O Theotokos. To Thee, therefore, have I come with haste, O
most pure Lady, in need of salvation. Care for my hurting spirit, O only blessed Lady,
and implore your Son, our God, to grant me pardon of all the sins that I have committed.

Lord have mercy (40 times) With as many bows as you have been directed to make.

Prayer to the Trinity

O all-Holy Trinity, O God, Creator of the universe, come quickly and dispose my heart to
begin these divinely inspired psalms, spoken by Thy Holy Spirit through the lips of Thy
servant David, with great heedfulness, and to then follow them with the performance of
good works. Though I am most unworthy, I now desire to chant them. Thou knowest my
unworthiness, and so I bow down in prayer before Thee and ask for Thy help as I cry out:
O Lord, dispose my mind and strengthen my heart that I may occupy myself in saying not
just words but in savoring what is being said, with understanding; that I may thus be
prepared to perform good works and that, then adorned with those good deeds, I might
stand at the right side of Thy tribunal with all of Thine own rational flock. And now, O
Master, give me Thy blessing that I might sing with both my whole heart and with my
understanding and say:

O come, let us worship God our King. (profound bow)

O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ our King and God.
(profound bow)

O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ Himself, our King
and God. (profound bow)

Pause now, O man and wait until all your senses have become calm. The, not
hurriedly, but with attentive, pious and humble heart, begin: Blessed is the
man: and the rest. Do so quietly, with reflection and attention, not in haste,
in order to be able to understand all that is being said.
