Human Area Networks

 Its a new technology which uses human

body as transmission media.
 It gives us safe and high speed network
transmission.
 Uses weak electric fields on the surface of
the body as a transmission medium.
Mechanism of Communication
How it works
It works over the optical properties of an electro-
optic crystal which can vary according to the
changes of a weak electric field.
How it works (Contd.)
 Transmitting transceiver creates a slight change in
the electric field across the body.
 Electric field is received by electro optic sensor in
receiver.
 Receiving transceiver recognizes the change in the
electric field.
 Sensing technology measures the weak electric
fields induced.
 Electro-optical crystal uses laser to convert and read
the signal.
Block diagram of Transceiver
Features
Bandwidth doesn’t deteriote even with duplex operation
and simultaneous access by many users.
Prototypes
PC Card Transeceiver
・ Transmission rate: 10Mbps
・ Protocol: TCP/IP
・ Transmission method: Half-duplex
・ Terminal interface: RS232C

USB Transmitter
Transmission rate not yet
determined (in testing stage).
Application Areas

 Instantaneous private network via

hand shaking.

 Touch advertising and receive

information.

 An alarm sounds automatically to

avoid accidental medicine ingestion.
Application Areas (Contd.)
 Personalisation of Mobile phones,
PCs & PDAs.

 Management of Confidential document.

 Just sitting on the seat triggers

the car to load its presets.
Application Areas (Contd.)
 Connect to the network just
by putting laptop on table hence
reduce electric wiring.

 Touch a printer to print screen.

 Identification & verification

of user and locking system.
Comparison with other Network
Technologies
Human Security
 The Tranceiver electrodes are completely covered with
insulating film, making it impossible for current to flow
into a person’s body from the transceiver.

 While communicating, a small displacement current is

generated by the electrons in body. However, such
displacement currents are very common in everyday life.

 It conforms to the “Radio Frequency-Exposure

protection Standard (RCR STD-38)” issued by the
Association of Radio Industries and Business (ARIB)
Conclusion
 When we compare this with other technology
present today it can give a better performance
over others.

 We can say that to connect the network with in

short distances it is best.

 In this technology there is no problem of

hackers as our body is itself a media.
