FROM DIRECTOR’S
DESK

The Institute set up in 1887 has acquired reputation as a premier technological

institute in India for imparting quality education and research. Over a period of time,
a number of courses have been added running from Diploma level to Doctoral level
and has a student strength over 3600. The dedicated faculty and the supporting staff,
the pillars of strength, combined with vibrant and talented student
community with human values certainly make VJTI as an Institute of National
importance.

The Institute was granted financial and academic autonomy on June 21, 2004. Under
the World Bank grant – TEQIP - the Institute has several projects underway to
establish itself as a world class technological institute. The modernization will offer
excellent central computing facilities to students, who will also have access to
improved laboratory and workshop facilities. Our educational programmes are carefully
designed to :
• Focus of education is students’ centric and learning centric.
• Create an environment of academic excellence through excellent teaching by
dedicated staff.
• Create an encouraging and creative environment conducive to high quality
research
• Providing academic freedom to acquire specialized knowledge, skills and
attitudes
7
• Inculcate in students, skills for innovation and creativity.

VJTI is slowly and steadily getting transformed into a research institute. Our vision is
to achieve the status of a research institute where teaching is also done. The research
institute helps sharpen the intellectual abilities, develop inquisitive qualities, encourage
the process of thinking and generate ideas of innovation. The inquisitiveness in the
students and teachers can lead to R & D activities, which will finally conclude in the
development of technology.
As the students of VJTI, it is necessary to come-up with ideas which may lead to innovations
and creations. It is necessary to think and think differently. If properly carried out,
brainstorming amongst students can help not only to come up with several ideas, but to
decide the best. Cultivation of continuous process of reading and thinking among the students
will provide inspiration towards creativity. At VJTI, we would like to encourage,
creativity, and thus a “Creativity & Innovation” cell has been established. Creativity
needs time, patience and persistence. But above all it calls for the right attitude.
Being open to any and every idea without ridiculing any would be the right
approach. A better tomorrow lies in today’s creativity.

Our esteemed Institute has been selected for the 2009 IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National
Quality 'Performance Excellence Trophy' in the Education Category by the Panel of Judges
chaired by Mr. Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC Ltd at the meeting held on 12th January,
2010 at IMC.

The VJTI of my dreams is a Research Institute with strong Undergraduate / Graduate

Programmes and thus excelling in Education, Research, Innovations and Management
of Technology to become a front-runner in the cutting – edge technologies. I am
confident that with the whole – hearted support and co – operation of the teaching as
well as supporting staff and students, the dream will soon be realized.

TRAINING AND PLACEMENT
Training and Placement Cell is a core area in V.J.T.I. which compliments
the efforts of the members of faculty by providing placement opportunities to students. The
cell continuously coordinates with the various industries and organizations for placement of
the students. It liaises with the corporate sectors and helps in developing the industry-
academic inter-relationship. It obtains feed back from organizations on a regular basis and
conveys it to the respective departments, which in turn, train students accordingly, thereby
increasing their placement opportunities. Placement is a Valuable Opportunity for our
students to integrate relevant, Practical work with academic study. Campus Recruitment
Programme conducted by the college is a very vital activity for the young engineers aspiring
for appropriate placements in the industry.

All the diploma courses, post diploma and postgraduate diploma courses have in-plant
training as an integral part of the course. Besides, degree students of Production Engineering,
MCA students also undergo Project training. In many cases, the students are selected and
offered jobs even before they appear for the final year examinations. The close rapport
developed by the institute with various industries has helped the student community in
securing gainful employment.

The Placement facility is available to all the students register with T&P Office on one job to
one student at the first instance. However, under certain circumstances students may be
permitted to apply for the second job as and when announced by the T&P Office. There is no
restriction on applying / appearing in interviews until the first job is secured.

The Placement Officer is actively involved with various corporate sectors for the placement
of students every year. The Training and Placement Officer makes regular visits to various
companies, on an all India basis, to project the capability of the students’ skills to fulfill the
requirements of the corporate world.

The Cell organizes certain orientation programmes, grooming sessions, mock interviews for
students of each stream. Besides, the Cell organizes various summer internship programmes
for students to provide them with hands-on experience and introducing them to match the
professional environment. Keeping in view the requirements of industry, the Cell also takes
initiative to arrange regular inter-active workshops, seminars and short-term courses with
active participation of academia and industry. It also takes initiative to develop the soft skills

77
(Aptitude, HR, GD, PI etc) within students to make them feel comfortable in interviews and
thus make them better employable.

The Training & Placement Cell is constantly pitching different industries to build relations
and network with industry people for final placements of our B Tech, M Tech, MCAs and
Diploma students..

Today V.J.T.I. stands No.I in placements amongst all the Engineering Colleges other than
IITs. In terms of the Corporates the results could be measured by looking at the list of the
companies which has visited here and recruited our students, to name a few – Microsoft,
Google, Amdocs, L & T, Gammon, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Accenture, Deloitte. Wipro, IBM,
Goldman Sachs, Texas Instruments and other world leading recruiters. About 150
organizations participated in the campus placement during the year 2007-08 and almost all
eligible students were placed in advance.
