Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• CPR is the most fundamental life support
technique that must be mastered by
anyone who is involved in injury
management and safety.
• With CPR, emergencies involving loss of
consciousness can be handled
competently, as well as increasing the
survivability of the individual.
• If an athlete or an injured individual loses
consciousness, it is imperative that you
follow the following steps;

– Step 1
• If the victim is unconscious, lay him/her on their
back and open his/her airway.

– Step 2
• Look,listen and feel for breathing.
– Step 3
• If the victim is not breathing, apply two rescue
breathes.

– Step 4
• Check the victim’s pulse.

– Step 5
• If you do not feel a pulse, begin compressions.

– Step 6
• Place the heel of your palm on the lower
breastbone.
– Step 7
• Place the other hand on top and straighten your
arms.

– Step 8
• Compress the chest downwards 1½ to 2 inches.
Continue until you get a heart beat.
• Apply 15 rescue compressions.
