Stage of Procedure Remarks

Lesson

Introduction 1. Teacher recalls pupils’ prior knowledge on the

( 5 minutes ) previous lesson with one question through picture Moral Value:
card. Cooperation
For example, (kerjasama)
“ Jaafar has 9 boxes of ice-creams. In each box, Self-confidence
there are 120123 ice-creams. How many ice- (percaya kepada diri-
creams does Jaafar has altogether?” sendiri)
2. Pupils are asked to solve the question.
3. One pupil is asked to solve the question on the Thinking Skill:
blackboard. Problem solving
For example, 120123 x 9 = ___________ Decision making
1 2 1 2 3
X 9 Appendix a
1 0 9 1 0 7

2. The answers are later then discussed together in

the class.
Lesson Whole Class Activity ( 10 minutes) Moral Value:
Development Cooperation
1. A word problem is posed on the blackboard.
(20 minutes) Self-confident
For example,
“ Rafiq has 23098 crates of apple juice. There are
Thinking Skill:
45 bottles of apple juice in each crate. How many
Problem solving
bottles of apple juice are there altogether?”
Decision making
2. Teacher uses Polya’s 4-step model to guide pupils
to solve the problem posed. Questions are asked.
Appendix 1
For example,
- “ What data is given in the problem?”
(23098 crates of apple juice/ 45 bottles of apple
juice in each crate)
- “What is asked for?”
( Number of bottles of apple juice altogether)
- What operation is needed?
(Multiplication)
3. A pupil is picked to carry out the operation on the
blackboard.
4. The correct steps of solving the problem as well as
the correct answer are discussed together.
5. Another similar problem is posed to the pupils, but
with some blank spaces.
For example,
“ Alif and MJ packed __ __ __ __ __ packets of
breads. Each pack had __ breads.
6. A pupil is picked randomly to come to fill in the
blanks with the numbers of his choice.
For example, 23456 packets of breads/ 6 breads.
7. The pupils are asked to solve the problem in their
exercise book.
8. A pupil is asked to solve the word problem on the
blackboard.
9. The answer and procedures are then discussed
together.
10.Step 5 to 9 will be repeated for another one
question.
Group Activity (10 minutes) Moral Value:
1. Pupils carry out “Solve Me” activity in groups. Cooperation

Thinking Skill:
Problem solving

Appendix 2

Closure 1. A short quiz is given to the pupils. Appendix 4

(10 minutes) 2. The answer is later discussed together.
3. Homework is given

Appendix 2:
Activity: “Solve Me”

Materials: small whiteboard (3), whiteboard marker (3), word problem flash cards(1 set)

Procedures:

1. Pupils are divided into groups of 3.

2. Each group will be given a handmade whiteboard and a whiteboard marker.

3. A group representative will pick a word problem flash card randomly.

4. Teacher pastes the flash card on the blackboard.

5. Each group is required to work together to solve the word problem and write down
the answer on the small whiteboard.

6. After all the groups solve the problem, the groups are asked to show their answer on
the small whiteboard to the other groups to compare whether they obtain the same
answer or not.

7. Step 3 to 6 will be repeated for another 2 or 3 round despite of the time duration left.
