(ALBUQUERQUE) -- The following is a statement from

DPNM Chairman Javier Gonzales on his re-election bid:

"Today I am announcing my candidacy for Chairman of the
Democratic Party of New Mexico.  I am fully committed to
putting my blood, sweat, and tears into the Party I was raised
in and have loved over the course of the next two years.

I have been a proud Democrat all my life and I have been
honored to serve as chair of the New Mexico Democratic
Party. Now more than ever we need a Democratic Party
focused on what's truly important -- the future of New
Mexico’s working families.  Senator Jeff Bingaman,
President Barack Obama, and our elected representatives in
Santa Fe and Washington are fighting every day to turn this
economy around and to improve opportunities for all New
Mexicans.   As the Democratic Party Chairman I am
committed to keeping New Mexico Blue in 2012 by re-
electing President Obama, Senator Bingaman,
Congressman Heinrich, Lujan and keeping our majorities in
the State House and Senate.

I'm proud of our historic fundraising year where the New
Mexico Democratic Party helped put more than $2.2 million
into Democratic campaigns in all 33 counties and I will
continue the historic pace we set in 2010 and work hard to
raise even more money for New Mexico Democrats for 2012.

Leading the Democratic Party has been an honor. I am

proud that as New Mexico Democrats  we stood together
and overcame a historic electoral wave, remaining focused
and united on what's important -- being a voice for all New
Mexicans and assuring a fair and equitable chance at a
better future

While many states faced historic losses, in New Mexico, our
mettle was tested and we dug deep, fought hard and
helped secure a historic re-election for Congressman Martin
Heinrich in the 1st Congressional District, Ben Ray Lujan in
the 3rd Congressional District as well as decisive victories
for a majority of statewide elected officials including
Attorney General Gary King, State Auditor Hector Balderas,
State Treasurer James Lewis and Land Commissioner Ray
Powell.  When the Republican wave could have spelled
disaster, and did spell disaster in most states, Democrats in
New Mexico held on to our majority in the House, which
along with our Senate majority gives us the chance to fight
back against Susana Martinez on issues like Education,
Jobs, Healthcare, the Environment and especially
Redistricting.

I’m running for chair of the Democratic Party because I
believe in and adhere to the basic Democratic values that
favor the working class, gives them a voice at the table and
a fair chance at a better tomorrow. And I am committed to
building a party that can effectively communicate those
values in every community – from corner to corner and
everywhere in between.

There is much work to be done and we must focus our efforts
on the future -- building a party that will fight every day for
New Mexico's families.  Our shared values as a party will
unite us and together we will fight for a better tomorrow.

Below is my 7 point plan to move our party forward, elect
Democrats and build a better New Mexico, join me in the
fight.

7 point plan to turn New Mexico Blue in 2012:

1)      Re-elect President Obama
2)      Re-elect Sen. Bingaman, Congressman Ben Ray Lujan
Jr and Martin Heinrich
3)     Take back CD-2
4)      Protect and grow the Democratic Majority in the NM
House and Senate
5)      Recruit and train Democrats for office at all levels of
government and challenge every Republican who is
running for office.   No Republican gets a free ride.
6)      Challenge Gov. Martinez's administration on its
assaults on New Mexican working families, educators, and
the environment.
7)      Every county matters.  Develop a 33 county strategy to
build local party infrastructure for the 2012 campaigns.
