Legislators’ propositions was a
real plus for California
voters. Their attempt to extract
more taxes from hard working
citizens was understood by
Californians. Since the
majority of voters "got it" and
voted sensibly, to my dying day, I
will never understand why the
same people keep sending the
same ones who created the
problems back to Sacramento.
Tony Strickland's comment was
right on. "The people of
California are tired of being used
as a personal ATM for runaway
government spending. They are
tired and finally demanding
changes from the business as
usual crowd in Sacramento".
The New York Times, of all
places, reported at length about
problems our State
faces. "There's a good reason
why most states won't fall down
the fiscal black hole where
California now dwells. This is a
state whose politicians, public
sector unions and advocacy
groups have been living in a
fantasy world of over spending,
investment-deadening taxation
and job-killing
regulation. Looking out over the
state's prospects and examining
the budget deal that legislators
have put together (jerry-rigged as
it is with revenue gimmicks and
unrealistic projections), the only
question is who will be begging
Washington for more money

schools pay their employees 35
per cent more in wages and
benefits than the national
average. Public employees with
30 years of service can retire with
more than half of their salaries as
pensions and public safety
workers can get 90 per cent of
their wages at age 50.
It seems to me this is a perfect
time for Republicans to step
forward and give Californians an
option. Many voters do not
remember that when Republicans
lost their majority in Sacramento,
there was a large budget
surplus. Let's remind voters with

of those who have led us into this
fiscal mess.

D-DAY--JUNE 6, 1944
On this day in history, the Invasion of Normandy took place. 160,000 Allied troops and 30,000 vehicles landed
along a 50-mile stretch of fortified French coastline and began fighting on the beaches in an attempt to regain France from Nazi
control. Despite heavy Allied losses, it turned the tide in World War II in Europe and eventually forced the surrender of Germany
less than a year later.
Flag Day, June 14, 2009
On 14 June 1777, the Marine Committee of the Continental Congress adopted a resolution, which gave birth to our National Flag.
The resolution read: “Resolved that the Flag of the United States be made of 13 stripes, alternate red and white, that the union be 13
stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
General George Washington explained: “We take the stars from heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white
stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing liberty.”
On 30 May 1916, President Woodrow Wilson announced during his Memorial Day address, that 14 June of each year would be
celebrated as Flag Day. “This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought
and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation... Though silent, it speaks
to us—speaks to us of the past, of the men and women who went before us, and of the records they wrote upon it.”
Today, our flag is a beacon for liberty, a symbol of hope for all people who “hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are
created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the
pursuit of Happiness.”

The absence of my articles for the
past two months was not due to a
failure to submit anything, but
instead to a cyber mystery that has
yet to be explained. They say that
the third time is the charm, so here
we go! My facts were all
obtained from an April article in
Human Events weekly newspaper,
long ago recycled. Forgive me for
not remembering the name, but I
will do my best to relate a very
important bit of news that will
have long-reaching
ramifications….
With all of President Obama’s
mingling in, and mangling of, the
national economy, less attention
has been afforded his attack on
education. The last few presidents
in recent history, it seems, have all
been “the education president”.
The current White House occupant
surely can NOT claim this title,
unless by “education president,”
he means making decisions that
benefit certain big pocket
supporters rather than insuring
children receive the best
opportunities to learn.
Under President Bush’s
administration, vouchers were
given to many Washington, D.C.
students, enabling their families to
choose their schools. Children
were allowed to leave failing
public schools (recognized as
being among the worst in the
nation) and enroll in more
successful private schools. Some
in the same schools Washington
politicians’ own children attend.
The students and their families are
overwhelmingly pleased with the
program. The students finally
have a real shot at the “American
Dream”. Being poor, the
children’s families can not afford
to keep their children in these
successful private schools without
the vouchers. Obama’s
administration decided to put an
end to that and force children back
into the failing schools, as soon as
the vouchers expire. Was this a
cost-saving move? Absolutely
NOT! The yearly cost spent per
student in D.C.’s public schools is
$15,000 (the highest in the nation),
whereas the cost of the private
school voucher was $7,500 per
student yearly. So why the
counterproductive move? It
happened after a not-so-subtle
reminder came down from the
National Education Association,
after an administration official
decided to recommend renewing
the vouchers. Simply put, the real
reason was that it was time for
Obama to “pay the piper”!
Many of the people who helped
install Obama and his dems in
office expect to have their
demands met. The education
official (I believe it was an under
secretary whose name escapes me)
was willing to keep the vouchers
in place because they were a clear-
cut success! When the NEA
(incidentally, one of the biggest, if
not the biggest, organizations
represented by gazillions of
lobbyists) caught wind of this, they
reminded Obama that they had
donated tons of money and hours
to seat him and his cronies. They
said vouchers must end and that
they were taking names! They
warned that that official’s name
would be announced at their next
annual meeting. You can bet it
won’t be to praise him! So, there
you have it! The “transparency”
Obama loves to speak of in sound
bites is finally becoming ever so
more apparent, probably in ways
he hoped it wouldn’t. Decisions
are made, not for the good of WE
the American people, but to
consolidate Obama’s powers over
our lives. The organizations who
insured the votes went in his
column expect to have their
demands met! You can count on
more of the same as long as the
dems are veto-proof in the Senate
and House!
