APRIL 2011

From the Pastor: Rev. Daryl W. Allen INSIDE THIS ISSUE

From the Pastor 1

Greetings Sisters and Brothers!
Financial Report 2
April is here, Spring has sprung, and a quarter of the year is already gone! In my mind,
this is a very interesting and important time of year. By this point Advent, and all of Caring and Sharing 2

the hustle and bustle of Christmas, is behind me, all of the glitz and excitement of the Parish Nurse 4
New Year has worn off, and I am firmly entrenched in the current year. (It also takes

is shaping up the way I would like and still have plenty of time to make any needed
corrections. GoodSearch/GoodShop 8

But more than all of that, this is the time of year that I am reminded about hope. Take Calendar 7
creation as an example. The harsh cold of winter plays havoc on our plants. They
wither and turn brown and stiff. But this time of year, the blooms return and we are
greeted with an explosion of color. Life begins to spring forth. The birds begin to sing
again. The warmth of the sun on our face signals to us that we can now return to the
outside and enjoy all of this new life. That brings excitement, newness, and anticipa-
tion. Hope has arrived! 04/01 Ed Ford

HOW CAN I HELP THE PEOPLE OF JAPAN?

There are two ways that we can help immediately. One is to pray. Please be in intentional prayer for the people, the aid
workers & government leaders as they seek to restore balance, help those trapped and lost & ignite a sense of hope for
those affected. Another is to donate money to UMCOR, United Methodist Committee on Relief, advance number
3021317. If you would like to donate, you may do so through the church. Make your check payable to Druid Hills
UMC, write advance number 3021317 in the memo field. We will write one check to UMCOR and mail it. So, I ask
that you please join me in prayer for this disaster and for ways that God might be leading you to help.

There have been lots of respiratory ailments going around lately. Just some things to remember when you have a cold.
 Strict hand washing. Use hot water & soap. If no water is available, you may use hand sanitizer
 Avoid handshakes. Your hands may be clean BUT do you know if others are?
 Use tissues only once & throw away. You could be re-infecting yourself by re-using the same tissue.
 Take time to get well. Drink lots of water. Get lots of bed rest. Avoid crowds.
 Cough into your elbow/sleeve if no tissue is available.
 Avoid putting hands near your face.

We have a well stocked medical equipment closet to loan out items to anyone who may need temporary help. Please
check out what we have.
Also, did you know our church has an account at our local Florida Blood Bank? If you are able to give blood, please do-
nate in the name of our church.
