INTRODUCTION
ITC was incorporated on August 24, 1910 under the name Imperial
Tobacco Company of India Limited. As the Company's ownership
progressively Indianised, the name of the Company was changed from
Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited to India Tobacco Company
Limited in 1970 and then to I.T.C. Limited in 1974.

 SOCIAL & FARM FORESTRY
 ITC organizes wasteland owners into forest user groups

who are trained in silviculture, land development and


plantation maintenance. Extension services support
them with a package of loans and supplies of high-
yielding, disease-resistant clonal saplings developed at
ITC’s R&D Laboratory at Bhadrachalam.
WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT
 ITC’s watershed initiatives have led to an improvement
in soil and moisture regimes – there is more land under
irrigation, water tables have risen and farmers can
harvest more than one crop, making it possible to live
off the land round the year.
AGRICULTURAL
PRODUCTIVITY
 Promotes a combination of solutions for optimizing water
management and enhancing farm productivity.
 Training and supervision foster the sharing of information and
experience among farmers.
 Water saving technologies like drip and sprinkler systems
ensures optimum use of available water.
LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT
 Less dependence from agriculture & local markets.
 ITC focuses on small and landless farmers, assisting them to
genetically upgrade their cattle through artificial insemination
with semen from superior strains such as Jersey and Holstein-
Friesian for cows, and Murrah for buffaloes.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
 The confidence and skills generated among women by
forming credit groups and managing businesses become assets
to their communities.
 Healthcare services have been provided to over 45,000
mothers-at-risk and children below 5. additionally, 309 health
camps were organize benefiting 21,780 patients.
 Over 8 years, ITC has assisted over 2,937 families to construct
their own sanitary units.
PRIMARY EDUCATION
 ITC’s initiatives are aimed at :
 (i) improving infrastructure in Government schools,
 (ii) providing supplementary education to support children
with school learning and exam preparation and
 (iii) building community and parental involvement with
school education so that more children go to school and
finish school.
RECOMMENDATIONS
 As ITC’s primary business is to sell cigarettes and it is
harmful for health.
 Relative Marketing should be carried out to a fairer

extent.
 Not targeting the audience lesser than age 18
 Not making the product available in half a km. radius

surrounding the schools.


 Accepting and putting clear warning pictorials on the

package etc.
