4th Annual Fall Show and Sale

Show Dates: September 5-14, 2008 Location: Echter’s Garden Center, Arvada, CO
Hours: M-Sat: 9-6, Sunday 10-5 www.echters.com
Join us for our fourth year at Echter’s Garden Center for our annual Fall Show and Sale. Echter’s has been a fun location for this
event. Enjoy exhibiting and selling your artwork in this greenhouse setting. Echter’s was just named “Garden Center Retailer of the
Year by the Garden Centers of America! Only one garden center a year gets this national honor. As many of you know, Echter’s has a
great clientele who has been very supportive of our event in the past. This is both an exhibit and a sale. Originals, prints, cards, calen-
dars, etc., are welcome as long as they have a botanical theme. The exhibit will be open 10 full days.
Note: A special RMSBA Rare exhibit meeting will be held the last day of the exhibit at Echter’s. See Meeting details.

Eligibility: RMSBA members with 2008 dues paid.

Eligible Submissions: Original artwork, prints, cards, calendars, etc. with a botanical theme. Work may be framed or unframed. Adhesive hangers
will be available to hang wrapped prints if desired. Prints should be clearly labeled as such to destinguish them from originals.

Labeling: All work that is for sale must be clearly labeled with the following:
Artist Name
Inventory number: Keep it simple.
Medium: Watercolor, colored pencil, etc., or “print”
Price: Sale price (before sales tax) or NFS (not for sale)

Exhibit Information: The work can hang on hinged free-standing wooden lattice panels, be placed in print bins or displayed on tables. If you have
a print bin bring it! It you wish to display on tables (smaller artwork), please bring easels.
Echter’s covers the artwork every night to guard against any damage. The show is set up in an area with a shaded overhead. Each artist assumes li-
ability for any loss and damage to their artwork.

Delivery and Setup: Setup day will be Thurday September 4, 1-4 p.m. When you arrive you’ll check in your artwork (see link to inventory sheet),
select a panel and hang your own artwork. You may bring your own display materials, such as print bins, card holders, etc.
Please arrange for a friend to deliver and install your artwork if you can not. We will not have people available to hang your artwork
Bring the completed inventory sheet with you to the setup.
Bad News: We have to install on a weekday. Good News: The first Friday we’re open is an exceptionally good sales day!

Take-Down: Monday, September 15, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Artists will take down their artwork and do an inventory check-out.

Staffing and Sales: RMSBA members work the exhibit and handle all sales. In the past we’ve had enough members entering, so that each exhibiting
member only had to work a half day. You can sign up for a work time in advance by emailing me. I will be looking for 2 members to work the
first Saturday because of heavy sales volume!
RMSBA will handle sales and sales tax reporting and reimburse members once a final accounting is made.

Reception: Saturday afternoon, September 6, 1-3 p.m.

Fees: Entry fee is $30.00. Make your check payable to RMSBA and mail with your registration form to Carol Till, 3665 Estes Street, Wheat Ridge,

Further Information:
In order to exhibit the greatest diversity of rare plants, and to avoid duplication, RMSBA is keeping a list of plants artists have
committed to portray. There is no guarantee that any specific artist or plant portrait will be chosen for the exhibition. Please
contact Carol Till for a current list and notify her of your plant choice. Because of the somewhat scarce and protected status of
these plants, we are working with DBG, botanists and others to assemble resources to assist artists in researching, locating
and studying their plant. Please respect the copyright holders of photographs and other resources you may use and get their
permission.

Contact: Call Carol with any questions. Carol Till, 303-423-2687, e-mail at caroltill@mindspring.com

UPDATED INFO CALL FOR
ENTRIES
Botanical Realism: Art Informs Science Entries Due July 31
Date Change: August 27 - November 9, 2008 Location: The Wildlife Experience, 10035 South Peoria St., Parker, CO 80134
www.thewildlifeexperience.org • There is an admission fee to TWE. See their Web site for prices.
The Wildlife Experience (TWE) has invited the RMSBA to exhibit our botanical artwork at their facility to coincide with a nationally touring floral art
exhibit, “Blossom, the Art of Flowers” http://www.susankblackfoundation.org/blossom.htm. This juried exhibit received entries from 970 artists from 14
countries. Our exhibit, “Botanical Realism” provides RMSBA with an opportunity to educate the public about the genre of botanical art and illustration
and how it differs from floral art. Our theme emphasizes the combination of art and science that distinguishes botanical art and illustration. Whether you
consider your work “illustration” or “art”, bring your finest work to this exhibit to illustrate what botanical artists do best.
Eligibility: RMSBA members with 2008 dues paid.
Theme: Botanical Realism, Art informs Science
Botanical art and illustration requires close scientific observation and realistic documentation. Artists combine the demands for botanical accuracy with
artistic and technical skills to produce artwork that is both scientifically illustrative and artistically appealing.
Prizes: RMSBA will provide a Curator’s Choice Award of $100 which will be presented to the artwork chosen as best illustrating the exhibits theme. We
are honored to have The Wildlife Experience Executive Director, Richard Smartt, Ph.D. and Exhibits Manager, Connie Mohrman selecting the award
winning piece.
Eligible Submissions: Artwork produced in the past 3 years which has not be previously exhibited at this venue. Space is limited, so we are limiting
artworks to those less than 30 inches in width (framed). All artwork must be framed and securely wired for framing. No sawtooth hangers.
Media: Two-dimensional original artwork of botanical subjects. No prints or print derivatives. Any natural elements or environment included in the
painting should be site specific. No props, man-made objects or non-botanical elements allowed.
Labeling: All work that is labeled must follow standard botanical labeling format. Any picture which is labeled incorrectly or which contains misspelling
will not be allowed in the exhibit.
Photography: TWE and RMSBA will have permission to photograph the artwork for reproduction in brochures or other marketing/public relations efforts
related to the exhibition.
Gallery Information: TWE’s Habitat Hallway, is outside of the café and theater on the museum’s first floor. It is a space that has high traffic from visitors
and is available for receptions and other events. Food and beverages may be consumed in this area. Low railings have been permanently installed in this
area to enforce distance from the walls and there is security camera surveillance. Given the conditions noted above, every effort will be made to ensure the
safety of the artwork displayed in Habitat Hallway.
Sales: TWE will not put prices on gallery labels or handle any sales. TWE will have a contact list available for people who want to reach the artists.
RMSBA will not be handling any sales. RMSBA will post a price list and artist contact information on our web site during the exhibit so that artists can be
contacted by interested buyers. Any works sold must hang for the duration of the exhibit.
Reception: TWE will be hosting a invitation-only Sunday Brunch reception to celebrate our show, as well as Blossom~Art of Flowers and the Colorado
Artist Guild show. All RMSBA members will receive an invitation. The brunch will be Sunday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Curator’s Choice
Award will be presented during the brunch program.
Delivery and Pickup: Delivery to Terry Ruiter’s (6260 South Grant, Centennial CO; 303.798.9452) on Sunday, 10 August, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.. It should all
be wrapped and ready to go or you will be sent back to wrap it. Artwork must be adequately wrapped for safety in transport. Minimum requirement is a soft

Artists Wanted
The Wildlife Experience would like one or two RMSBA members
to come to the museum and do some sketching and answer
questions regarding botanical art during our September 6, Family
Fun Day event. Family Fun Day is the first Saturday of every
month and includes such things as: animal trivia and bingo,
story time, art and science projects, and special entertainment or
educational presentations. Visitors of all ages come out for these
events and our traffic increases. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. If an artist or artists were available, maybe from
12-2 or something, that would be great. This would be
a nice complement to our “Botanic Realism” exhibit.
