Re: Gas Drilling Task Force & Gas Drilling Ad Hoc Nominating Committee
The Dallas City Council District 3 election was a referendum not only on leadership but also on
the integrity of the handling of gas drilling within the City of Dallas. In no other race was the
issue so debated. As you know, in no other part of our City is the issue so important. The first
two proposed sites for drilling on City-owned land are in District 3 near our homes and schools.
It is vital that we restore the trust of District 3 residents in our municipal government and provide
accountability for decisions made on their behalf. To that end, it is prudent and essential that we
delay the June 22 vote on the composition of the Gas Drilling Task Force until I take office on
Monday, June 27. I am writing to request such a delay.
This five day delay will not impede the Gas Drilling Task Force's timetable whatsoever, but it
will ensure that District 3 residents are properly represented on this very important issue.
The Gas Drilling Ad Hoc Nominating Committee will conduct interviews next week, and I plan
to attend and will be prepared to vote on the composition of the Gas Drilling Task Force on
Monday, June 27.
As the incoming councilmember for District 3, I hope you will respect my request for a five day
delay on a vote that is so important to my constituents. Thank you for consideration of this
request and I look forward to working with you.
