Use of loudspeakers to communicate with Allah.

Use of loudspeakers to communicate with Allah.

Within a three hundred meters radius of my house there are not less than seven Masjids; all of
them use loudspeakers; some of them have four of them, instead of the usual two.

Being a Muslim, I want to hear the athan for each prayer. But unfortunately, what I hear during
each salah time is a cacophony of unintelligible noise. I experience this as an assault on me and
others.

The Masjid nearest to my house use their loudspeakers for more than calling the athan: they use
it to broadcast their daily salah, the recitation of surah yaseen after each fajr prayer and also
the singing of burdah on Friday mornings.

During Ramadan, it was used to conduct midnight prayers and also to make dua (during which
the imam regularly burst into wailing. Apparently a dua peppered with such wailing is

stronger). Immediately after Isha, there was also singing of salawath in Tamil, for about half
an hour. It was supposed to be singing of the praise of the noble Prophet (saw), but it hardly
made any sense to me. (It may because I am not bright enough.)

This singing of salawath was done by kids who competed with each other in an attempt to
make sure that their voice was distinctly heard by others. (They are men in the making who
would later engage in some of the activities I am going to mention below.)

Before Ramadan, for one whole month, it was used to broadcast the reading of Saheeh al
Bukhari, for more than an hour after fajr and then from after asr to isha. After isha there was
bayan the same bayan for the whole of the month extolling the greatness of Imam Bukhari with
some variations. I wondered if the speakers were reading from the same note book! A friend of
mine wished a loud that he could steal that book and give it a secret burial in his dustbin.

I have been in this town for less than a year. I am told by the local that there are other events
such as the singing of moulood and manakib which are conducted for ten days each. Of course
they will be using the loudspeakers. If I had the misfortune of spending one whole year in this
town, I am sure to experience this too.

People are free to practice what they believe to be a virtuous act. I am magnanimous enough to
grant them the right practice their religion. After all, Islam is a religion of tolerance.

.
.
But cant they practice it softly without using the loudspeakers? Isnt Allah capable of hearing
them without their prayers being shouted through loudspeakers?
