Youth Corner

January and February were busy months for the OSKAYAK Youth Committee and the Richmond Aboriginal Life-skills and Leadership (RALLY) Participants. Both groups attended a weekend leadership retreat at Loon Lake, located in the Malcom Research Forest, in Maple Ridge. Pinnacle Pursuits, a leadership training group, meet the group at Loon Lake and took the youth on a once in a life time adventure. Youth pushed their boundaries by walking on high ropes and zipping atop the cedar forest on a zip line. The RALLY youth showed off their enhanced leadership skills to the community while they supported host Mike James at Pathways 5th Annual Aboriginal Games Workshop held at Blundell Elementary School. A big thank you to Mike James for coming out to Richmond, sharing his travelling bundle, traditional games and teachings with all of us. The RALLY group will be leaving for Naniamo during spring break to attend this years Gathering Our Voices Conference and then wrapping up the project with a community celebration at the end of March.
