He said three people were seriously injured and were rushed to Sari Asih Hospital in Sangiang, Periuk district, while those with minor injuries were treated at health posts established at the locations. According to Sudrajat, the strong winds, locally called puting beliung, hit the district at about 8:15 p.m., and lasted for five minutes. The worst-hit areas in the district were Kuta Bumi subdistrict with 488 houses damaged, Sukamantri subdistrict with 53 houses reportedly destroyed and Pangadegan village where 63 houses lost their roofs. Rusmiati, a resident of Taman Kuta Bumi II housing complex who was carrying her 6-month old baby when the strong winds struck, was swept up as high as 20 meters, just like a spinning top. I felt like I was sitting on a flying pan when the strong wind suddenly swept me and my baby up and then it slowly took us to land on the ground, she said. Fortunately, Rusmiati and her baby were relatively unharmed. The tale of MAHSURI, a lady of great beauty, goes back to 200 years ago.
