    The purpose of this research was to know level of contamination of bacterium of listeria monocytogenes on local chicken eggs from some traditional market in surabaya. A total of 24 eggs were collected by simple random. Result indicated that during September 3rd until September 24th 2010 were 0% from 24 sample sold at some traditional markets in surabaya was negatively infected.

    Abstrak : The purpose of this research was to know level of contamination of bacterium of Listeria monocytogenes on local chicken eggs from some traditional market in Surabaya. A total of 24 eggs were collected by simple random. Listeria monocytogenes was detected by culturing eggs in Buffered Listeria Enrichment Broth, then streaked on Listeria Oxford Agar, then continued with Gram stain, Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Methyl Red, Voges Proskauer, Glucosa test and Catalase test. The result indicated that during September 3th until September 24th 2010 were 0% from 24 sample sold at some traditional market in Surabaya was negatively infected by Listeria monocytogenes. It can be concluded that local chicken eggs from some traditional markets in Surabaya free from the bacterium of Listeria monocytogenes.
