A range of ammunition types are provided for CTWS.
They offer solutions for land service applications for
troop suppression, anti armour and airbourne threats.

C h a ra c t e r i st i c s
The ammunition is of a novel design with the projectile
completely surrounded by propellant and enclosed within
the cartridge case. This means that the ammunition volume
is reduced for a given performance level.
The resulting ammunition is cylindrical in shape facilitating
the novel design of the compact cannon and associated
feed system. The size of the ammunition is 255mm x 65mm,
calibre 40mm.

40 C TA U n m a n n e d Tu r r e t
The French Government (DGA) has contracted
CTAI to develop and produce an unmanned
turret, integrating CTWS. The turret has been
designed to be lightweight and low profile
to maximise the survivability, mobility and
transportability of the host platform.
Principal requirements for the turret design:
• Integrate the 40mm CTWS with a triple
nature magazine and up to 60 on-line
munitions
• Minimise turret weight (under 1.5 tonnes)
• Maximise stealth
• Provide a base level of ballistic protection
to NATO Level 3 (7.62mm AP) for turret
mounted equipment, with the option
to increase this with “add-on” armour
protection or HK-DAS as required
• Provide the crew with observation
capability in order to engage targets whilst
on the move
• Provide a fully stabilised 40 CTWS main
armament
• High elevation weapon angle for urban
and arial targets (-15° to +65°)

In order to reduce integration cost and

CTWS
F e e d S y st e m
The feed system supplies ammunition to the cannon.
Ammunition natures can be contained in single
or multiple magazines according to customer
requirements. The CTWS link-less concept allows
the feed system to be adapted to different platforms.
The feeder is an automated system providing rapid
switching of ammunition nature and supporting high
rates of fire.

• Round selected is the round

Retrofit

C T WS
I n t e g ra t io n
The CTWS is a “drop-in” weapon
system solution which can be
retrofitted into existing or
integrated into future land, sea
and air platforms.
The systems principle elements
are weapon, feeder and cannon
control unit. The principal
system elements include
the weapon, feed system
and control unit.

C T WS Tu r r e t
I n t r u s io n
The CTWS with its “push through” weapon
firing cycle simplifies turret integration;
the compact design provides optimum
ammunition stowage, high angles
of elevation and minimum turret intrusion.

C T WS Pl a t f o r m s
The CTWS has already been demonstrated
in a range of platforms. These manned
and unmanned environments have been used
to undertake integration assessments
and a variety system risk reduction work.

combined with a low integration
burden means that CTWS offers
the highest level of stowed kills
of any comparable medium
calibre weapon system.
