Kezia Dugdale MSP Shadow Minister for Youth Employment M1.07 Scottish Parliament Edinburgh EH99 1SP

___ Your ref/Ur faidhle: AM-09-05-12 03 July 2012

Thank you for your letter of 9 May 2012 to my colleague Angela Constance MSP, Minister for Youth Employment, concerning the former News Corporation bid for BSkyB. I am replying as the Cabinet Secretary with lead policy interest in the media sector. On the Scottish Government's general stance to that bid, the First Minister has covered this in the Scottish Parliament, notably at First Ministers Questions on 14 June 2012. He also has set this out at some length recently in his evidence to the Leveson Inquiry on 13 June. In addition, you may wish to note that the Scottish Government has published information we hold about meetings between Scottish Ministers and media proprietors, editors and media executives. This includes meetings and correspondence with representatives of News International and News Corporation. That material, replies to recent Parliamentary Questions (including on Cabinet discussions) and a link to the First Ministers evidence to the Leveson Inquiry may be found at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/About/People/14944/proprietors-editors-execs. I do not believe that there is anything useful that I can add to this existing mass of material.
